and has anyone here did the spare tire thing were u cut that out?
hey maybe you could do wut justin did... replace your back windows with lexan or somthing... just a thought
yeah strip all your interior make your car look gay and ugly as hell to gain a hundredth of a second, sounds like a fuckin deal to me!
ummmm why the fuck would you take out the styrafoam* behind the bumpers?!? you know that is the most stupid thing I have ever heard, all the styrafoam in the whole car probably weighs less than one of your shoes you got on, except you gotta take the bumper off to get it all out. you will be better off just leavin your shoes on the ground before you race.
I agree... Stripping the interior is gay, but i have heard of taking out the metal in the bumpers, but it sounds like thatll get you killed in an accident
LOL, I knew it was only a matter of time before you got involved in this thread Justin. :lolQuote:
hey, did you have to run a vertical center support to keep that lexan from sagging in the middle? PS, how did you mount that without the use of rivets?
Removing the front bumper steel insert would at least make it so almost any front impact will total your car.
Mantis, it sounds like you've done every practical weight-saving measure already and doing anything else will make the car noticeably less useful, safe, etc.
yeah unless you do somthing extreme like cut out the spare tire well
then what do you do after its gone? just a huge hole? or cover it in an aluminum sheet?
Travis
yea thin aluminum i would think, im just wondering how much weight that would remove, if its alot would it effect the handling of the car since it will be real light in the ass end,
yeah thin aluminum but bolt it in. I think that should remove about 30lbs, maybe more im not really sure. If your worried about your weight distribution, why not move the battery to the trunk too?
if you dont have a 5 speed, get one, they're lighter than the auto's buy about 25-40 lbs...
lighter aluminum wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes would lighten up the rear a tad...
take out the spare, strip the trunk, make a flat bed trunk... remove the spare tire well. you could take off the bumpers and replace the steel bars with lighetr ones... tube steel... less than an eighth thick...
umm, aluminum radiator... strip the interior.. then swap in sparco, or momo seats and make a custom rear seat that's lighter... lose the carpeting. you can strip the dash apart but i dont know if that'd weight much.. you could also strip out the doors.
yeah with lightweight wheels you can lose 20 pounds for the set, assuming you still have the steelies, but it might actually be more im not sure what the steelies weigh
smash out all the windows, they are heavy....you can ditch the headlights, motors, taillights, and exhaust too!
LOL, actually the headlight motors are heavy, you can rig them to stay up all the time.
im sorry but stripping everything in the car is so fucking gay. why would you take out the carpet? it weighs like 2 lbs. unless you can strip over a hundred lbs you aint gonna feel shit anyway.
They stip it because they want to. You don't have to do it if you don't want to. But if they do, good for them. They'd beat you in a race.Quote:

i can notice a difference in my car with about 40-50lbs of weight change... I removed a/c, condenser fan, stripped trunk and various other small things
I would love to cut up my trunk and replace eveything with aluminum, but then I would need to slap on one of those stupid ass ricer spoilers to keep the ass of my car glued to the road.
Well, i dont think thats nessecerily true, you can relocate the battery to the trunk for better weight transfer... and lighten the front end with some cf hood and parts
Wow.. Car is going to be real light.. But my new stock will still be faster.. hahah
hey since there is no limit as what to remove, why not take off all of your doors and put in vinecian blinds. I did on my car and it looks GREAT!!. also you could get a smaller gas tank.( hey more trips to the gas staion but you'll get there faster) also you could cut off the back brakes assembly since you dont use them that much anyways. lol!!!
Now this is becoming a waste of space and any serious points. KNOCK IT OFF!!!
I would love to start cutting up stuff, but in order to lighten up the front to balance everything would cost some good money, as int the carbon fiber hood and others.
yeah. Maybe you could also replace your back windoz with some plexiglass, or cut out some of the sheetmetal in the trunk lid or somthing
I was actually thinking of closing the trunk off permanently... and riveting an aluminum cover up... then just adding in my brake lights and reverse lights... it wont be pretty unless I can get some fiberglass to mold the parts together... but it will be a lot lighter.
