blew a rod

Ok here is the deal. Saturday i will be at the Atlanta meet. Sunday I will be in Myrtle Beach for most of the day. I could swing by on my way home that evening and check it over for you if you want. Might as well since I am passing through.

Hey Dylan if it IS terminal the pull a part in Atlanta has 53 3rd gens listed on their inventory and their engines go for 105 bucks. Of course you have to pull them yourself, but you definitely can't beat the price

Hmm mine makes a noise like that about 1/6 that loud... Im thinking its piston slap from the pistons rocking in the bores. I once saw a 3g that the pistons were scuffed soo badly that that is what it sounded like.

fatal. almost as bad as a spun bearing... the bottom end is gonna eat (eating) itself up. What leads me to believe it is piston slap/scuffed piston is that if it were a rod itd be banging its brains out all the time, it only seems to be getting really bad when you give it gas which makes the pistons push themselves against the thrust side of the cylinder wall. I bet both the cylinder walls and pistons on 1 or 2 cyls are gouged up badly.

at least you can drive it for a week or 2 if you need to... maybe longer depending but it def needs to get worked on

ah, throw some heavy tractor oil in or something in and it'll be fine. lol. dont we wish it was that easy. anyway, dude, that does sound like an old screwed up chrysler. crazy. i hope you can get a new engine for your 3gee.
