Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
Mine has the teg gears in the tranny!! I have two one for tall gear ratios the other for short. The taller one is Lude carbed box the other was a combo or Accord bellhousing and Integra box and internals.
Not sure about the flywheel i use the carbed lude flywheel and clutch kit for that model seems to work just fine the kit is acutally the same for the teggy as well.
1st 45mph @8k rpm
2nd 75mph @8k
3rd 105mph @8k
4th 135mph @8k
5th 145mph is the most at around 7k
Lude carbed box
1st 45mph @8k
2nd 75mph @8k
3rd 115mph @8k
4th 140mph @8k
5th 160mph @7k (couldn't tell but was slowly overtaking an M3 at the time which are limited to 155mph!! shame that!! Was going downhill a little bit too which helped)
All speeds are by the speedo with 205/50/15 tyres.

yeah....for NA....the teg gears are a must. im thinking about it but mine is a DD. so i will just make more power so it can still be quick with the current ratio set up.

how do you get such high rpm without the engine "cut off" taking place. I think I've read that there is a fuel cut off after...is it 6700? Or am I completely miss reading your numbers?
-
Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
i think he's running carbed and pretty well modified engines so he might not get fuel cut.
-
Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
A rev limiter would only apply to fuel injection. No such thing on carbed cars.

yeah but only high modified engines have power in that range. our cars just drop off power around 5-6k

Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
It was a carbed lude to begine with i don't think they ever had a rev limiter on them!! Besides that it has it's own Race fuel pumps and seperate wiring to them, and no your not miss reading those with a 285 duration camshaft with 10mm lift with a moddified big valve cylinder head thats the kinda rpm you'll be pulling but you'll need aftermarket rods and forged pistons for an engine like that to last anymore than 15k miles before it explodes unless you drive liek miss daisy then you'll be fine!! But idle on a 285 degree cam is definately lumpy and 275 is the best cam for road use can still get 7.5k rpm out of a well moddified engine and have lots a bottom and top end and a nice clean idle. Stock cams are uselss and jumping upto any stage one cam is a good benefit but it's something you do once you've improved the efficency of the engine pulling air in and out, the cam governs howmuch air is allowed in and out so if you try to increase without improving induction and exhaust you'll not gain anything somtimes it will make it less driveable and feel slower than stock. (extreme cases with higher duration cam) Also with a cam you need to moddifiy the fueling with a carb you make it run richer with FI you need a re-map or if running stock try bigger injectors, 4th gen map sensor and a adjustable fuel regulator and up it a few psi.
On a stock engine with good header and exhaust, CAI, some slight improvements to the TB, i'd expect a stage one cam to pull very nicely to 6.5k rpm and have excellent midrange and fair low end power with a nice idle, if you have the benenfits of larger TB then maybe the power band could reach as high as 7k rpm but with a stock inlet manifold and plenum style chamber i'd be surprised if you got anythign usefull after 7k with an ITB or twin weber setup i've had power upto 7.5k rpm on the same camshaft.

So 5x5=25 and 25x3=75 so 75mph or if im in 1st gear at 6k rpms 1x5=5 5x6=30 so in 1st gear at 6000 rpm's im doing 30mph. It works like this in every gear, with every speed and at all rpm's. Pretty much i know the speed just by knowing what gear im in and the rpm im at or what rpm's im at if i look at the speed and know what gear im in. Is everyones like this? Or am i the only one who got bored to do the math, lol.
LMFAO your the only one

Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
So if I upgrade my TB, won't I have to follow up with an upgrade to the intake as well and subsequent heads? From what I can gather the A20's intake is brutal, but if I which to a b16, I'd be looking at a different TB anyway?
-
Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
Go with the B18 intake manifold, and yes you will be using whatever TB comes on the manifold. Heres a pic of the modded B18 http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/2825/engine4sk2.jpg

Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
If I wanted to do the Integra hybrid build I need teg 1-4 gears, 3g 5th gear, 3g syncros, and 3g bearings correct? Where is the cheapest source for these?
-
Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
If the bearings and syncros are anything like the ones I pulled out of a tranny with an exploded diff, then you'll probably be able to get away with using your old syncros.
With the Teg hybrid, you need the Teg gearset, minus 5th gear, the Accord bellhousing, the Accord 5th gear, and the Teg gearhousing. The Teg's gearhousing solves a problem the Accord's gearhousing has. It has larger oiling passages. The small oiling passages are why so many Accord 5th gears burn out.

Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
You need both the mainshaft and the countershaft from the Teg trans.
-
Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
Hmm, I'll have to hold off until I can get my hands on a used one then. If I just wanted to replace my 5th gear in my 3g do I just need the mainshaft gear?

Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
Thanks Bit for the insight:) I know this is going to be a stupid question...but what car does the B18 come from? Yeah, yeah...I know, I know...what a tard.

its cool man....they came in 90-93 tegs.

yeah you can use the 1-4 teg gears and then the accord 5th gear...im thinking about doing the swap my self since my tranny is about to go out.

Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
hey, maybe i'm late to the party. but the teg tranny, will the a20 bellhousing bolt to it like the a20 bolts to the jdm b18a tranny?

i would use the integra tranny since they have bigger passages for the oil.
-
Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???
yeah, but if it doesn't bolt to the a20 engine, you're kinda stuck unless you get the a20 bellhousing on the integra tranny. but does that work?

yup thats how i think its done...a20 bell housing and the integra gear housing.

sweet. i was under the impression from the how-to that it's the teg gears in the accord housing. so this could make life even better. :)
