So suppose you ran a leaded car on unleaded gas... don't the valves need the leaded gas for lubrication or something? Can that cause premature valvetrain failure?

Although I have held a valid drivers license continuously since the early 70s, I don't recall the transition from leaded to unleaded gas having as dire an impact on our engines as was initially predicted. We probably just wore the engines out and whatever damage the unleaded gas did was minor, relative to other engine wear.
