Re: My 1985 1.8 EX Automatic
Parts in the UK, Denhonda might know better, but I appear to be at the mercy of ebay, except for routine service parts, which I get from my local factors, CarCare, Garstang. Regarding your cassette unit, I have the original National MW/LW, one speaker radio fitted. Turn a corner, retune, turn a corner, retune.... etc. John
Re: My 1985 1.8 EX Automatic
I tried the cassette cleaning thingy this evening, but it didn't make much difference - the sound is still really fuzzy and quiet. Not sure what to try next, really. I'd like to keep the original radio, but I'm not sure I can stand an eternity of 'The Bay'! :)

Re: My 1985 1.8 EX Automatic
Welcome!
That's a clean car you've got there! I have a Panasonic deck mounted in my 82, seemed to fit like normal. The wiring in behind is tight though, I usually pull off the panel underneath the ashtray and the ashtray itself so I can properly arrange the wiring during installation.
Re: My 1985 1.8 EX Automatic
Nice ride John, I'm jealous of what you're starting out with over there. Forget the stock radio, you can always re-install it later if you really want to. It's not bad to put in a new one. Try Crutchfield. I don't know that they deliver to the U.K. but you can at least get an idea of what fits. If you can get delivery from them they provide the wiring conversion harness so it's no trouble. Keep us posted. I install a Blaupunkt that fit nice and snug.

Denhonda, it was garaged previously but, unfortunately, I don't have one that I can use myself. I'm just going to have to take great care of the bodywork. The original owner had it waxoiled fairly regularly, so I'm going to keep that up. I also plan to wax the paintwork fairly often.
That's interesting about the number plate - I hadn't noticed! Does that mean I'll have to change the front one as well? It's a pity it doesn't have the original. It probably used to have the Ribble Valley Honda logo on it! Still, the tax disk holder and the sticker in the rear window are still there.
Thanks Denhonda and 2ndGenGuy about the radio info. The cassette player is very fuzzy, which is why I asked. You can't really hear anything, but I'm going to have a go with a cassette head cleaner and see if that makes any difference.
Thanks for the welcome, guys. It's nice to be here!
John.
P.S. - Does anyone know where is a good place to get parts in the UK?
Hey John,
Re. all your comments...
I recommend products from www.bilthamber.com
I can't recommend Waxoyl, instead consider using the cavity wax from the folk above. I recently bought clay bars & there high gloss wax - autobalm, which gives a really wet look, I never thought my Honda would come up they way it has done. Gives approximately three months protection too, as opposed to the next to no protection ordinary liquid polishes give.
Maybe you could consider renting a garage locally? My Honda came from a heated garage in London & since coming up to Scotland & being ungaraged a lot of the time - bad me - rust has started in a couple of places. It will be back in its garage again in the next couple of weeks though having being kept on a friends drive for the past year. I'm using it as my daily atm so its getting plenty of exercise now!
You can keep the number plates the way they are, but for originalities sake it would be nice if they matched... but I'm over fussy that way!
I have a spare radio cassette the same as yours, but without testing it I've no idea if the tape deck will be okay or not. Let me know if you're interested & I'll check it out.
Parts are available from Honda dealers - though they can be expensive, also from ebay obviously, from some motor factors & from me!! I have numerous odds & sods from parts I've acquired over the years...

Re: My 1985 1.8 EX Automatic
Hi all. This is my first post and I just wanted to compliment John on his Accord and say how glad I am it has found a good home. I too was keeping an eye on it on eBay and had no idea just how perfect it is; absolutely stunning.
I have a particular reason for being jealous of your car John, namely this which is the 1985 Misty Beige 1.8 EX I bought earlier this year and aside from being a manual, is identical in every way, though nowhere near as good!

I'll start a thread of my own to introduce the car and take some pics as it is now when I get chance and tell you about the work I've been doing on the car recently.
Cheers

Re: My 1985 1.8 EX Automatic
Cripes! They could be twins. I've never seen one registered as late as that either. I'd love to see some more photos of it.
And ta for the compliment! I wish I could take some of the credit, but really it was just luck. That and the fact that the car has been so well looked after by its previous owners!
John.
