Re: Manual steering rack!
I'm not sure who brought this back from the dead but thank you!!:) i can't get the link to work but this is what i want to do to,does anyone know the part number? my rack is leaking,my pump is leaking, and my speed sensor is leaking. I always loved manual steering on hondas, I can't understand why they didn't offer it in the US. the entire system is going to come out. goodbyr leaks, drag and weight.

Just go to autozone and ask for the manual steering rack for an 86 accord hatch. part # 108-1021

Re: Manual steering rack!
been there, done that, what i really want is a quicker steer ratio, ours is goddamn slow and anybody that's slid their rearend knows what im talking about
does the integra 1st gen have a quicker ratio? one of those racks, with a larger ps pulley or adjustable restriction in the rack would be ideal

Re: Manual steering rack!
can you still get these manual racks? Im thinking about ditching mine. Carot?
-
Re: Manual steering rack!
I might go to the yard soon. I'll see if they carry some. These were only available on the Accord hatch 86 so they are a bit rare.
-
Re: Manual steering rack!
well, there's a problem with this. that rack is the SAME PART NUMBER as the the power rack.
already been there.

Re: Manual steering rack!
yeah, one of the other local 3geezers is going to buy one soon and rebuild it.
-
Re: Manual steering rack!
when you go to autozone just have them look it up manually under steering it's 199
-
Re: Manual steering rack!
Does anyone know if there is there a difference in the gear ratios between the manual and power rack?
-
Re: Manual steering rack!
i've a spare manual rack for a 2g sitting in my buddys yard, i doubt they are interchangeable with a 3g, but if someone wants to run numbers and can use it, they can have it.
it's still in the rear crossmember but its in fairly good shape.

Re: Manual steering rack!

yup, i posted that about 10 posts up.
in order to get the manual rack, you have to order it USED from them. even then it's iffy IMO.

Re: Manual steering rack!
when i checked on it they said the manual rack was available new, but it had the same number as the power unit, when they looked it up in the computer they were able to select eithier manual or power.

Re: Manual steering rack!
i went to a reman website and it seems the pn for the 2gen and 3gen manual racks are off by a letter, i'm thinking the tie-rod lengths might have to do with this, but i'll pull that rack out today and have a better look at it.

Re: Manual steering rack!
So autozone nor there partner company can get manual racks new or salvaged...
Anyone know somewhere else?
