Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
Oh crap... I just realized it was "Purple Power" that's NOT in the purple jug... I got Super Clean that is in a purple jug. :uh: I'll have to go to walmart tomorrow, cuz I want my tranny looking spotless.
Thanks, Blake.
Yes, my green 87 Sedan has the motor that is going in this. It's an 88 A3 with my A1 intake and weber, plus a Delta 272.
I got the engine harness almost done... I'm trying to use the stock harness as much as possible, but I ran into a snag and called it quits tonight. Gotta go to Walmart and get some butt-connectors.

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
I got the coil mounted on the upper tranny mount (I-beam bracket), so I hope it's out of the way enough.
I think I'm done with my mock-up junk motor, so I'll start getting the A3 out of the sedan today.

you need to solder or get some decent connectors, I wouldn't put anything electrical from Walmart on a lawn mower , if you use a bunch of butt connectors, they are going to get full of water and corrode, and the vibration in the engine bay will make them fail. What will happen is ,you'll be on the side of the road somewhere, trying to chase an intermittent connection from one of those things

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
I went to Shucks for my supplies today. I haven't had an issue with any previous connectors; I yank on the wires pretty hard to make sure they won't come apart.
My dad wants me to do some radio work for him tonight, so I'll have to put the honda off for another couple hours...

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
It thawed out pretty good the last 2 days, so I'll probably start working on getting my motor out of the Sedan so I can spend a week cleaning it... lol

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
Heh... How come it took only 45 minutes to get this engine ready to pull and the stock car took about 4 hours?? I love this weber...

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
Good to see you making some progress, haven't checked on this thread in a while. Engine bay looks nice and shiny now... Hopefully I can make mine look like that after I pull my motor.
Can't wait to see more progress, keep it up.

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
Just get some Purple Power in the White jug and a pack of steel wool for the hard stuff.
Not a lot of progress today... Got the chain hooked up and I was working on disconnecting the shift linkages and couldn't find a 10mm wrench I just had, so I went to Napa and got a 4pc set for $10, then my dad needed a ride to get his bus, then I went to the exhaust shop to get my exhaust "fixed" on my sidekick and it's almost as bad as when I went in... Wasted day... But I did go finish a job for a guy with a Sidekick. Had to change out a dizzy and he gave me $110 ($50 hour of work! I bought the dizzy), so I was ahead by the end of the day...
Too many excuses, I know... It's getting pitifull.

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
I just downloaded about 100 chopped and screwed songs that are making me REALLY want to build a killer box... I can't wait!

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
These tires are just too good to throw away, so I think I'm gonna run the 13's till I can afford to get some new tires for my Fat 5's.
What would look better? Steelies or those funky hub caps?

The valve cover only looks like that cuz of the condensation.

Spent an hour on this tranny with my Purple Power and a wire-wheel on a drill. It's kinda shiney!

That's probably it for right now... I want to start some more posts about the head.

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
Got the tranny apart from the engine. I need a new T/O bearring, but the clutch looks like it's got 100 miles on it! That's saying something about how I drive it... or how good the stock clutch is, cuz I drive it like I stole it!... heh.
I'm getting a little worried cuz I'm running out of money! New T/O bearring will probably be $40-60. I'm just gonna stotch-brite my P/P and Flywheel cuz I'm gonna use my clutch.
It had a really stiff pedal that got a LOT better when I had the cable perfectly allined, but after that, it doesn't like shifting into 3rd or 5th. The shifter is loose... I need new rubber for the shifter but I don't know where I can find it.
I need new tires for my 15's, but I can hold on that for a while... I need to get it registered as well, plus my Sidekick needs renewal by February 1st... Thank goodness I pay a LOT in taxes durring working season.
I'm 20 and the back of my mouth is starting to hurt and I don't have dental. I'm REALLY hoping it's just because I bite down really hard without thinking, and it's not wizdom teeth coming in wrong. YAY debt for the rest of my life...
That's all for now...:violin:

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
u can get the energy suspension bushings for it from another car i think an EG but dont remember.. there only like 15bucks shipped...
btw i know about the wisdom teeth shit mine have been coming in for a year now and hurt like hell + i got a huge hole in 1 of my molars and tempory feeling in the other side that i was supposed to get root caneld (fuck spending $1200)
-
Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
HMM! I thought it was something closer to the shifter that wore out, not the bushings that are on the tranny. Hmm.
-
Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
that tranny looks so perrrty.
Awesome job on this so far. I'm dying to see this damn thing up and running and the system in.

Re: Bass Man's got a HATCH!
you should use some duplicolor 'aluminum' colored engine paint. that shine from the wire wheel doesn't last very long, especially if you drive the car every day (in rain and such) but the paint holds up quite well and looks really good.
