ok, I just installed my reground delta cam (.272) and I swear that my car is slower. I check by where I pull out of my driveway an punch it, I hit 50 at a certain point in the road. Stock it was at a driveway, blaster 2 coil about 35 feet before driveway, msd 6 with blaster about 100 feet, bosch plat+4 110 feet. Delta cam, at the damn driveway again, and my 50-60 acceleration in 4th is about 10 seconds :burn: oh yeah, 88 lx manual. What could have gone wrong?
You should adjust your timing on the distributor.
There is also a possibility that your timing belt is not aligned perfectly.
What is your timing set at now?
timing belt should be fine, but I try to stay away from adjusting the timing...I know how, but knowing what it's set at? advancing? retarding? I send the car in for timing. What should it be at? I can play with it tonight.
Did you adjust your valves to the new specs? What did you do to break the cam in? I've got the same cam and you must have done something really wrong b/c it wont make your car slower. (you sure you put the deltacam in and didnt mess up and put the old one back in?)
lol, yeah got the delta in. adjusted valves to .008 intake and .010 exhaust. let it idle at 1700 for 24 minutes with some lithium grease on it.
Yeah I would adjust the valves when cold then run the motor for a while, let the motor cool then adjust them again if needed... then just check them when hot.
What were the specs for the 272?
Is your vacuum at idle higher or lower?
i have delta 272 cam.
my car is faster,way faster with the cam.
do you have any tother mods beside cam?

yeah, just the ones listed....MSD 6, blaster 2, bosch +4...basically just ignition.. now, with the cam, it is as simple as puting it in, adjusting the valves, and adjusting the timing, yeah?
Maybe you aren't pulling in enough fuel for the new demand
Upgrade your fuel pump... :D
I found a nice one that has low PSI to be safe for the stock carb.

So you don't have an exhaust system? (I dont mean just a muffler either) When I talked with deltacam before I got my 272 cam they said that grind is for cars that have upgraded full exhaust, ignition, and fuel upgrades too or the car will run funny. Just a thought but I just remembered that from my conversation with one of there techs.
that's what I was thinking, that there was the valves opening more without the fuel to accomidate and nowhere to push the exhaust....I guess that I wasn't ready for something that big when all I had were ignition mods....well I guess that answers my next question...what my next mod should be.....anybody have a spare header laying around? :)
I advanced my timing a bit ago and ran 2 0-60's one shifting at 5000 (15-16 secs) and one shifting at 6000 (13-14 secs) I guess that's ok. I love you guys..thank you. I tell everybody about ya'll espicially my dad when he says "you can't do that" I say well I've got this website where you ask a question and everybody does what they can do to help...3geez.com has changed my life.
0-60 in 13 seconds??? my EK hatch with just cat back and intake runs 8.15 seconds 0-60... either you are a horrible driver or your car is fuckt... that would explain the 1500 rpm idle lol... my accord idled at 650-700 rpm

I've got the Delta 260 grind, and as soon as I started driving it I can feel the difference. I advanced the timing about 2 degrees and it takes off and idel is still about 1000rpms. I haven't timed its 0-60 or 1/4 mile, but it feels good for an automatic.

ok, no one cares if your sedan is fast.
your problem is that you don't listen to what we say.
just adding cam won't help ya a lot. it is not like you adding a turbo where you see huge amounts of power. even then you do full exhaust and air intake work.
if you don't have them, don't come back to us and cry that your car is slow after you install the cam.
Hey, there's no need to jump on him because he's not as familar with his cars as the rest of us are... He just got finished praising this board for the helpful people and then some of you guys turn around and tell him that "he's not listening" or he's a "horrible driver or your car is fuckt"... How the hell do responses like that help new people to the board??? Stick around cvergi01, but try not to jump too quickly into any new performance mods becasue there is a lot of basic things that need attention, and if they don't work right, well then not much else will.

Ok cvergi01, I hate to say this but you got too big of a grind for what mods you have. When I talked with a guy from Deltacam he said the 272 grind is one step from the race grind. Meaning you need to have certain upgrades to accomodate the new camshaft. He told me that I needed to have an upgraded carb, igniton system, full exhaust system, upgraded intake and I think that was it. Again I hate to say it but you got too big of a cam for your car. Your just missing some key upgrades to make it run correctly.

No wonder your idle dropped
Race grind = less vacuum
Less vacuum = Less Ignition Advance also less pull on the fuel so less fuel
A upgraded carb or hopfuly you can get away with just a fuel pump for now... but you need a little more fuel coming in... while a weber will allow you to adjust that and help in some areas, you'll still need the pump anyways.
After the pump start opening up the exhaust from header to muffler.
Race grinds aren't usually ment for quicker acceleration at lower rpms so you were bound to lose out when you got the bigger cam.
Remember bigger isn't always better, and just becasue it says Race doesn't mean it's going to perform well on every engine.
Cvergi01, yeah, stick around, dude. Not eveyone here is that negative. I'd have jumped in too if I thought I could have helped, but I really don't know much about cams. Just from reading this post so far though, I've already learned something.

so, do you think it will hurt my engine to be running with it for a month or so before I can get the appropriate mods?
it wouldn't hurt the engine... only your gas mileage and driveability, as far as i know.

You might foul plugs and get blowback (carbon deposit) in your intake manifold because of the backpressure, but it will only hurt performance, not damage anything. If it's going to be awhile before you can upgrade the other stuff, consider changing back to the stock cam.

Yes pacesetter is the only company that makes a HEADER for our type of cars. :)
dc sports makes headers to for my car 87 accord lxi 4dr fule injected and they cost 360 and they are better cant wait to get it im gonna order it from a speed shop from around where i live and spark plug wires im gonna are 120 they start with a v for the name they are blue but before i put all that in i got to put new engine gaskets in cuz there is a small oil leak well later
dc sports no longer manufactures the header for our cars... shops may have one lying around in their warehouse, so it can help to shop around. for all intents and purposes, pacesetter is the only company you could easily acquire a header and downpipe from.

You could get a 4-1 from S&S... or you can wait...
...and get one from me, I've found most of the places I need to get the materials I want... stainless steel :D it will be a bit pricey... I was thinking of doing a shorty header... only because it would lessen the cost considerably but still hopefully gain over stock 4-1 Carb and 4-2-1 EFI, just because of the larger tube diameter.
Problem is I need a stock dx or lx to work on so I can line up the system to the cat...
...BTW my welding has improved a bunch since my first header.

when it comes to headers, well, pacessetter makes them, they are cheap, but they work.
S&S makes them but they are twice as expensive as pacessetter.
it all depends on your budget. i would just go with pacessetter and be done with it. i have them. i had pacessetter for over 2 years now. no rust, no problem. you just have to strip the paint and power coat them or paint with high temp paint and bake them in the oven to get the paint bond to the metal.
I think that's what I'm gonna do...just be glad that someone still makes em for us and get it without any hassle....what about full exhaust? is it basically custom?

.065 .060? I believe it's 16.... I think I need 12 - 14 guage for turbo but maybe not?

Hmm... Back to on topic for this thread... I just installed Colts mild tri-flow cam and i do feel a difference. I'll put in a better fuel pump soon and see how much that helps... But overall I do like how she pulls now.
