i typed in 1982 accord and 19983 accord and it took for ever to load and there was only 3gees that came up for accord

AND only ONE of the links that was posted (besides the Welding Thread) has any pics of an 82 or 83. So you guys should not starting flaming so quickly. The 82-83 2g is a LOT different from the 84-85 2g.

Different engines. The 82-83 had almost the same engines as the 81. The body styling was different in a few places. The suspension and interior are about all that's the same...Quote:

The late 2g's got updated gauge clusters, with prelude style gauges starting at a 9 o'clock zero, and the lettering on dash controls changed slightly. Steering wheels changed (for the better) and the HVAC controls were revised. The rest of the interior was largely the same.
Mechanical:
The late cars share little with the early ones from the firewall foreward. The engine bay was lengthened, and as the early cars had the rear exhaust EK-1 and (canada) EL engines, which were sourced from the 1st gen accord. the late car was designed to accomodate the front exhaust ES,ET and EZ(canada) engines, which share many commonalities with the A-series (in fact, I believe that the EZ is infact the A16, however not confirmed. The ES and ET engines are virtually identical to the A18). In response to the new engine, the front crossmember was reconfigured to allow the exhaust downpipe to clear between it and the block. Also, a bump out was added to the drivers side frame rail to clear the alternator, now mounted at the back of the engine. Transmission bellhousing patterns changed to interface with the infant A-series engines.

Yeah the 82 and 83 are quite a bit more stylish. However, I think the 84-85 are more modern looking. But compared to the 3g, they're still old looking. :)
82-3 models are the last of a long gone breed. Starting in 84, pretty much everything went to good old black, snap on plastic. I think the 82 and 83's look so dated, but they do have more chrome and more of an old school vibe. It's like the 2.5 generation Accord was a transition from the "metallic" car look to the "black plastic" car look. Man, the 82 and 83 Accords rusted worse than any other Honda IMO. The 84's and on kinda flowed pretty smoothly; the 82-3's look more assembled I guess. Now, everything is all plastic-- black, gray, and tan. The exterior of the new stuff is all one color.
Personally I prefer the one-piece bumpers on the later cars. I do prefer the 82-83 hood/grille/marker light combo. The header panel on the later ones looks "clip together" to me. Since I'm shaving the trim on my hatchback, I really have no preference for either trim. If I could get an 84-85 hatch and swap on my hood, grille and fenders, that'd be sweet! I prefer the early gauge cluster though.
Bah, too much time invested in my car anyways, gotta get it painted.
I think those malaysian cars with the one piece bumpers (like the red one) look fucking phenomenal.

Yeah I forgot about the red 1gen as well. I was thinking of either doing crome 1gen bumpers or the one piece 2.5gen ones. Wonder if I can paint them body colour?
Are you talking about painting the 1 gen. bumpers body color or the 2.5 Generation bumpers body colored? If you're talking about the 2.5 gen. plastic bumpers, I can tell you all the hell about those! I'm not much for spraying the chrome ones body color and I've never seen it done properly.Quote:

It can be done, according to some people and it can't be done according to others. I tried like hell to find a set of used LX bumpers for my job, but I couldn't. My bumpers were in great shape, but they were black from the factory. I called a few places and got split opinions-- everything from "NO, it won't work esp. when it gets cold" to "We do it all the time, just gotta use promoter and flex agent." I called a small shop that has done work for me and they do good work. At first, they said it wouldn't work because my bumpers weren't meant to be painted a color since they were black from the factory. We even dropped them off and he said he wasn't confident they would adhere. I was bummed. Then, he called and said that he talked to his rep and he thought he had a product that would work for adhesion. I took the covers in and they came out tight. I stuck with the OEM look; I didn't paint the whole cover, just the lower portion. That makes it harder to get adhesion because you have an obvious bridge from the taped off area. I have seen the entire bumper done and it is too much color for me. Plus, the side moldings are still black.Quote:

Accord's are a year ahead in the Japanese Market. So it probably is an 83. Just like the 3g started in 85.

Yes my mistake EL engine. The Knob is for the headlight adjust, which 'appears' vacuum powered like the heater controls!! The white pipe running across the front rail, in front of the radiator is clearly visible in the photo. The grey pipes visible between the air filter and the wiper motor, control the heater flaps. One giant leap for mankind, one step back to the 30's for Honda!!
Headlight adjust? Like adjust the headlights up and down? From inside the car? Holy new unknown feature, Batman! That's awesome! Does it work pretty well?
It is to adjust beam height, 3 positions, 2passengers, 4 passengers, and laden with luggage. It moves the lights at a glacial pace. According to the Honda shop manual "Headlight adjuster must be replaced as an assembly" really useful.

That is about as idiotic as toyota's load sensing proportioning valve for the rear brakes. It uses an arm mounted to the rear axle to detect suspension sag and apply more rear brake bias. My suspension lift pretty much ruined that rosy thought, and to replace the trashed valve was over 200 bucks.Quote:

Regarding the Headlamp adjustment I'm surprised they didn't do it automatically off a lever & valve attached to the rear suspension like my Lancia Beta, especially since I thought upper spec models (as were availible in the UK) already had a proportioning valve back there for the rear brake proportioning like guyhatesmycar's Toyota... or was that only for a higher model spec. than yours.
