I just got an 88 Honda Accord and there seems to be a tranny leak of some sort. what could this be? yes I will look into it tomorrow, but what are the possibilities etc? thanks

Is there any specific points on the bottom of the car to look for? and what to tighten what to not?

Automatic. And the odd thing is that reading on this forum there is talk of grinding sounds. My cousin drove the car and it drives perfect and shifts smooth. ? hmmm?
maybe axle seals.
auto trannies have two lines that go into radiator. it is for tranny cooler. You rubber lines may be craked or have small wholes.
The fluid is a pink/red so it's deff tranny fluid. It is under the engine near the left front tire sort of(if standing directly in front of car). Also where are these lines youre talking about, and what should i look for. Also I am having a terrible time finding the transmission fluid dipstick/screw to check the level. Where is it? I've looked in the manual and all over the engine!?
look through the passenger wheel well. its easier to find from there. its pretty much front and center on the tranny casing. looking under the hood, its kinda below the dizzy to the left a bit, buried under some hoses.
and just so you dont go crazy looking for the filter, there isnt one.
What's a dizzy? and does anyone have a pick of it, cuz i've looked everywhere. And thanks for the help I will go out and look once more?

could be power steer fluid if its on the left (where the power steer shit is), power steering fluid is the same as automatic transmition fluid so it will be red aswell.
So where should the transmission fluid cap be to check the level of fluid in the car? right, left, center, what part of the motor. ? use images above to help?
No, that looks like the transmission vent. There should be a black plastic cap over it, to keep water and dirt out. The dipstick is down low, close to where the engine bolts to the transmission, on the radiator side of the tranny. It is about an inch wide and is aluminum.Quote:

okay, the aluminum tab in the middle is the dipstick. the hard line above it it the cold side of the a/c line, the valve is off the top of the picture. looking at your whole engine bay picture, its right under your upper radiator hose. as you can see its under a ton of crap, so locate your cold side a/c valve and keep digging. its down there, i promise!
Thanks alot evil, the picture really helped. It's really hard to get to, its under a bunch of stuff unlike yours in the pic. Before it goes up on the jacks tonight where is the power steering fluid? because that could be leaking right? but thanks for all the help. 3geez
if you are standing in front of the car looking under the hood, your power steering resivore is on the right side, close to the front. if your leak is on the left i doubt that is it, but worth checking anyhow. your tranny drain plug is on the left, however. might check it for cross threading, or not being in all the way.
The tranny drain plug is on the bottom of the transmission. So to speak you would have to be under the car right? if you could supply pictures of the tranny drain plug and location and the power steering resivoir I would be very appreciative. Thanks Evil!

Power steering reservoir is easy to find, if you stand in front of the car facing the engine, look on your right. You will see a cylinder type reservoir with dark fluid in it. It is the only one there, it should have a red cap. That is the power steering fluid reservoir.Quote:

Evil is that circular piece supposed to have anything over it/on it covering it? The leak came from around that big circular piece we believe. Is there anything missing. We will check the bolts etc. tomorrow. And We cannot, I repeat cannot get that tranny fluid cap off. Mine is blocked pretty good and will not come off for dear life, any tips. in all honesty, i really dont know what that circular piece is, but im sure someone on here does. ill research it, though, and try to figure out what it is.
i have to use vice grips to get the dipstick loose on my car. not the regular sized ones, but a smaller pair that fits in the confined area. they give just enough leverage to break it free so i can then turn it with my hand.
The leak seems to be coming from the top of the transmission around were the circular piece is near some bolts? hmmm. Do you mind taking a pic or checking your car to see if the circular thing is the same on yours? ie. there's no cap or anything on it?. Thanks evil.
- and have you had any tranny trouble ever with yours? leaks etc.

yeah i can take a look tonight and if i have the time i can post what i found tomorrow. i have to go to a wedding, but ill try to stop by the office on my way and tell you what i found.
as far as tranny problems go, i really dont have any. but i do have to change my fluid about every 9 months because i live in a mountainous area and it gets really hot here. if i dont keep up with it, the car starts shifting funny.

okay so the weather here has been really rainy and i didnt get to really look thoroughly, but i did poke around for a bit and i couldnt find that round piece you were refering to. possibly someone else has an idea.

Your dipstick will work a lot better if you replace the o-ring on it. Then just tighten the dipstick until it slightly smushes the o-ring. You won't have any leaks and won't have to crank down to get it sealed. No vice-grips, no skinned knuckles, no worries.Quote:
