Tdurr's Turbo Thread! *with pics*
SOOOO its almost ready!!! I got most of the parts lined up or at my house!!
I just bought a IC +piping from a buddy who had a 12sec 1g eclipse. The IC is larger then i really wanted but should look mean if i can get it to fit. hehe. I got a SSQV knock off, oil feed lines, SAFC, 2 N/a rx7 injectors(440cc i think, but i need 2 more) and well... yea then rendon is gonna sell me the turbo, mani, and DP sooo im super close to this thing being boosted. :nervous:
I think ill get some pics later of everything I have. Just to make u ppl lol.
I started to do a street tune on the SAFC and realized it never turns off(some kinda problem with the Ignition switch so its on 24/7 but we think its not saving the settings cuz we did a few thing, turned it off and restarted it and it was reset. But after we gave up and i went home, The settings were magically back so I dono. I'm hoping its all good.

Nothing wrong with the safc SON lol. i have not had any problems. ITS legit if you know what your doing and tunning it right thats it. DUDE im pumped to see it on your car and see some pulls. you going to love it. IM so used it now i want more LOL...i was told that to. your going to want more boost after awhile

I wouldnt recommend painting intercooler at all, meh.. reduces its ablilty to dissapate heat.

Yes Roodoo youre right about that, have old buddy who painted his and had lost some power so he says, changed it and had gained power. the colder the air tha more gain is. I'd just sanded that shitsubushi emblem off with three brick wrapped in sand paper.
Anyhow, looks Good Tim, cant wait to see it build and pulling :D Do you going with Forged pistons or on stock?

as for the paint, its a super thin coat i only did on one side. Like it looks all painted from the front but if u get closer u still can see the silver so its not gonna bother anything. Ill get more pics soon.
now the more power thing.. well i prob will be okay with this(after i go obd1 and get a 14b). Thats my plan. then keep it low boost for a few years, blow it up, have a pre-built motor and BAM! 300whp.
but If all goes right, i might have a back up car to drive if this ever goes down.. hehe...

i went from 17.3 sec 1/4 mi box stock to mid 13's on street tires, untuned, on the stock motor with boost

you guys gotta remember when i was running 13, i was doing it with stock size all season radials, with 2.4 60ft times! my one friend was on slicks in his CRX and was running mid 12s and STILL COULDNT BEAT MY MPH

i had an LXi Trans for those runs, but now i have an LX/DX trans on the built motor. I suspect the longer final drive on the LX/DX trans will help with traction, esp in the first 2 gears.

lol......idk..when i build my motor i did some stuff lol..cant beat port and polished head and 3 angle valve job and block was just stock everything i forgot what i did i rebuild that motor in 03. shit i was all for free so its all good lol.
I ran 15.6 my buddy hit a 15.4 im like wtf hes like its your take off it SUCKS lol...its all in the driving to..idk how fast you shift and all that. DO you double clutch. speed shift. i do all that now. trust me it helps lol.

and all honda's have a 3angle cut in the head(found this out from a machinest, so yea, all you ever need is your valves cut)
and speed shift=powershift? Or partial lift shift? double clutching is dumb and a waist of time.

Anyways onto a update, i got a job at Goodyear tires(again) and work from 6-7 mon-sat soooo Ill be getting done with this kit by the 2nd week of july no problem. I'm pumped. Sucks im working EVERY day tho.

after i had swapped to a 5 speed and still NA, i was pulling a few car lengths on a couple of 98-99 accord 4dr V6s with cai's etc (should be a high 15s car) so i should have been solidly in the 15s, prolly with a 15.7-15.9 1/4 mile ish. I had ac removed, no muffler, no back seat, stripped trunk, lightweight flywheel, somtimes i had the ps belt off (worth about 2 tenths) homemade Short ram intake and some other small mods. No headwork/cam etc

yeah i ran mine wayyy retarded when i was boosted at first like rendon but it ran way better when i had the msd btm pulling the timing out instead of running around retarded a bit all the time. Also if you NA you can go a few degrees advanced on the timing but dont go nuts, i wouldnt run it full advanced, just 2-4 degrees max, and then id run better gas, at least 89 or 91 or so

actually, i had my ignition timing retarded like 7 or 8 degrees iirc.... thats alot! I finally put it back to around stock and had the msd btm pull out most of the timing. The runs i made with the 13 sec passes were with the ignition timing retarded, i set it back and messed around with it and it was worlds better and quicker with the btm but i never had time to run the car with slicks and running purely off the btm. Im sure it would have been solid in the 12s with the stock motor!

well i got a new A/F and boost gauge in the mail. Just ordered it. site pic:

boost is the #'s and AF is the bar on the out side. I believe its a 270* sweep. Oh and i ordered a new steering wheel + quick release hub. :D

87Roach made 3 passes on the dyno adjusting the cam gear each time. With it advanced or retarded one degree he lost somewhere around 20hp on an NA car. When he zero'd it out, he put down 129whp. Impressive, and shows what a waste these cam gears turned out to be. And yes, watch Rendon's Dyno pull. It was impressive!

meh, did he have cams, milled head, P&p head, or any other mild/wild head work? I have spoken to people who tune low + high HP cars for a living and cam timing has a big role once u start messing with alot of things.
but anyways i saw teh video. deff will go 2.5in dp. And im getting that 16g i found. 150 son!

Yeah I wasn't thinking about it, but we weren't resetting the ignition timing when we redid the cam gear. Since the distributor runs off the cam, we were fucking with cam and ignition timing at the same time. Yes, he was quite modded out though. So I retract my previous statement about the cam gears being a waste.

Hmm I didn't even think about resetting the timing, interesting.
So I'm guessing once I'm obd1 I can then change the cam gear and the ecu will still keep the ignition timing the same? Or without being obd1 after setting it advanced or retarded you have to reset the ignition timing?
Maybe move these posts to that other thread about the cam gear john.

No because OBDI you can set the advance, but you can't set the base timing with the computer. Your distributor will still be run off of the camshaft. Only way to keep your timing static is to run a setup like MegaJolt with a crank trigger wheel, or some sort of crank sensor to determine when to fire. Maybe we should make a sticky about the cam gear, so people understand how it works. We can put our findings in there. Really what we need is a dyno run while adjusting the cam gear, and resetting the timing back to base. I'd be willing to go in on an hour of Dyno time with someone to try this.

But yesterday I talked to rendon about the safc and found out im running like 3x as much fuel as i should be. SOooooo gonna retard the timing and turn the Fuel pressure down some to see if she will pull harder.

I plan on putting a 2.5in exhaust all the way back so no biggie.
But i just ran over my list and besides, Oil, spark plugs, and a few other small things, All i need is oil Drain and a half stack and i can go boost!

Dp flange came in the mail today, And i bought some 3inch pipe from summit yesterday. Gonna run a Open dp for IA most likely(depends on how loud it is)

I have a glowshift A/f gauge, I'll be getting a EGT instead of a wideband, so it will be fine.
the place im gonna get my tuning done at will have a exhaust probe that reads a/f so its all good.

well i have the af gauge and the blue wire mod on the safc(i has 2 o2 sensors) so im just gonna cross reference them. But even when i switched af gauges, i get the same reading i did, rich at idle and curse, ideal to first or second bar of rich at wot. so meh works good enough.

my coupe was running rich at idle too. I took out a bit of fuel in the lower rpms, and it seemed to run better and pull harder.

yea just got back from my buddys house and sat in the drive way and played with the setting some. now to be sure, according to the SAFC using the blue wire mod your supposed to be in the .500-1.00 range to have a correct mixture? true? cuz whenever the safc reads under 1.00 the glowshift gauge reads flat out lean.
