Here in North America, DX's and LX's (low-end models) had 13's, but the LX-i's and SE-i's (high-end models) had to have 14's to clear the front calipers (but 13's still fit in the back, at least for LX-i's).
13's clear the LX-I calipers. ;)
No? I had 13's that wouldn't clear...isn't that why all 1988-1989 LX-i's and SE-i's have 14's? Their front calipers are too big.
I have a set of wheels that clear them very well. These are aftermarket wheels so that may be The difference.
13 x 8 wheels

I had a set of four 13" steelies with snow tires that I got from my sister. They wouldn't fit over my front calipers (cleared the drums, no problem) so I gave them to Mike for his '87 LX-i hatch. I guess it depends on each individual wheel design? How close were those 13's to the caliper?
maybe aftermarket 13 inch rims fit but steallies do not fit the 88-89 front calipers
since he is from the UK the brakes may be different. all JDM accord's no matter what year/trim/engine fit 13" wheels. only way to see is to try a 13 on it and see
They are bilstein struts and Areospeed coilovers.
The wheels are V2 Compitition wheels. 13 x 8 fronts at 11lbs and 15 x 3.5 rears.

I just checked tire rack and 13 inch tires are no longer available, it's probably the same in a lot of places, if you want 13's you are going to probably have to shell out big bucks and go through a place like Coker Tire :dunno:
The OP is in the UK. Smaller wheels are the norm over there. They don't seem to have the same fetish with huge wheels that Americans have.
That's about a 225/60.
I do think you can fit a wider tire under these cars, especially if it's that short.
LOL! I still have my 14's. Even tires for those are getting harder to find. I had to stop using Discount Tire because they don't keep what I want in stock. How annoying would it be to have a road hazard incident and have to drive on a "loaner" tire while waiting for them to get in what I need. I went to Sam's only because I can actually see their inventory. Also, the waiting time is much shorter than Discount or NTB.
If I had it to do over I would try 15" rims. The choices are much broader in that size.
Somebody has a Smart for Two car at my office. Even that little roller skate has 15's.
My 86 LXi has 13's all the way around, I'm pretty sure its just the 88-89 LXi and the SEi that have to have 14's
on this subject, has anyone actually put a 205/70-14 on a three g and know for sure it clears?
yeah 13s are getting rare, at my tire shop i go to they are like 90 bucks a tire now...how ever pepboys seems to have some crappy cheapo tires that are 4 for $100 in 13s only..
i had 1 205/70/14 on the right rear of my hatch when i got it and it cleared fine...lmao you should of seen the tire setup on this car when i got it...
it had 1 165/70/13 on the front left, 1 195/60/15 on the right front, 1 185/60/14 on the left rear, and a 205/70/14 on the right rear...they were alll mix matched steelies from different cars with tires worn down to the belts rode like shitttt. 2nd day i had the car i went to the junkers and bought a set of matchin 14" steelies from a civic with good tires..rides so much better now
