cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
are these the sensors which trigger the fuel injection in our cars? im trying to figure out if honda just named these for the sake of not using names like a camshaft sensor.
if they are essentially a dual disc setup and one is used as a typical wheel while the other is a reference part, i think i might have stumbled onto a trigger for megasquirt
Re: cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
Edit- (post what I said in my original post)
From my understanding, it's called a 'crank angle sensor' in the distributor.

Re: cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
so is it a dual disc setup?
Re: cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
it is two individual sensors.
Next week i will be doing EFI distributor rebuild HOW TO and i will have pictures of it.
So just hang on till next week.

thanks for letting me know man. MS has the ability to use 2 sensors, one for a reference part and one continuous wheel that rotates and registers the 360 degrees. if it has both of those, then i figured a solution for crank trigger
Re: cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
nope, you will have to use diff setup for crank triger. honda sensor are set up for for every 90 deg.

it should be able to hit that 90 degree mark every time, and once the other reference point is hit, itll trigger something. megasquirt should be able to do that since its able to utilize a 4-1 trigger wheel if it needs. ill have to read more on this though
Re: cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
Sorry for the reply on the old post, this is the only one which comes up on my searching so I thought others may find this post and want the help here.
The problem I am having with it is this: upon start up the vehicle will die if you give it alot of gas. It can be driven but you have to baby the throttle. Once warmed up it will accelarate normally it still dies when switching from reverse to drive as well.
Does anyone know where I can buy the tdc sensor? The parts stores I have called tell me my 1988 lxi does not have a tdc sensor, but the code says it does. Am I crazy? It is throwing a code 8.
I can buy the whole distributor but it's $500. I was hoping to be able to fix it cheaper...
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Re: cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
Code 8 is the crank angle sensor in the distributor. It's not available separately, unfortunately, at least not the many times I've looked. I would replace the entire distributor. They are all getting old and developing a lot of issues. You can buy this distributor on eBay for a lot cheaper than $500. It's entirely new too. A lot of the remanufactured distributors don't replace the crank angle sensor. Even the good brands use the old one. I haven't tried the eBay one, but I would buy it over everything else right now. If you get it, be sure to report back how it works for you.
Re: cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
I just replaced the bottom half of mine when it threw that code. Didn't have any more with good bearings left, so i just swapped the bottom off one that could barely turn in the top part.
Re: cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
@dr_snooz that is much cheaper, I did not even think to look on ebay. I'll think about that for sure.
@demon, where do you get the part you replaced?
Re: cylinder position sensor and TDC sensor
I've got plenty of dizzys with bad bearings. Just swapped it from one I had. Just make sure to use a Fi one
