Accord 1G in sunny Australia
Hi all, Im new here and I just thought Id share my ongoing restoration journey with you all. I’ve had a passion for the 1st Gen Accord since my dads ownership of one from new back in 1981. Being a teenager at the time I passed my driving test in this car and have very fond memories of driving the car the full length and breath of the United Kingdom. Sadly the Accord rusted away in the early 90s and was eventually taking to the scrap yard and was sold for scrap. My dad passed away not long after and I started a family and eventually migrated to Australia in 2007. To cut a long story short Ive been searching for the same type of Honda my dad owned all those years ago, looking through classifieds, eBay, Gumtree etc.
I eventually found one miraculously the exact same year, model and even colour to the Accord my dad used to own. This car even 99% complete and only had one owner from new!! The only issue was it was over 5000 Klms away at the other side of Australia. I promptly purchased the car via emails and text messages. The original owner had sadly passed away and the car was being sold by a family member. I arranged transport via a trucking company and the car finally arrived at my home 8months after the purchase. (It only actually took 12 days from order). So now my restoration begins!!! Updates and photos posted on my progress.

Thanks guys for the welcome. Just had a really quick look over the Honda, and it’s remarkable that it’s lasted this long in the Aussie sun in such awesome condition. A real credit to its former owner. There’s heaps of bills and receipts in the glove box, service history record and original documents from when it was new. It looks like it had some sort of rust prevention applied when new according to the documents. Well I can tell you it’s worked. There’s no rot or serious rust anywhere under the car. The boot floor still looks like new. There is however rust that needs attention on the roof and leading edge of the bonnet. But other than that, it’s just minor surface rust and paint fade/peel. All the chrome is complete but the rubbers have perished. Sun has also attacked a lot of the plastic on the car and made it very brittle. So I guess my parts list has begun. Now to start looking through the internet for parts. I intend to fully strip out the car, recon the engine and give it a full prep and respray. Happy days ahead.
