1987 Accord LXi rough idel at stop lights
Greetings,
I am new to the forum and amature mechanic. I recently bought a 1987 Accord LXi hatchback with low mile (60k). It runs great except for a very rough idle at stop lights or signs. When I shift to neutral, the idle get much better and when I'm driving it is smooth. From my research, my suspicion is the IAVC. My first thought is to give it a good cleaning. Not knowing exactly where it is, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction of where it is located under the hood and if my suspicion.
Thank You!Attachment 10659

Hello
Just looking at your picture you have an early EFI setup like an 1986. The IACV usually is bolted to the intake front right where the PGFMI sticker is. I dont see it there just two vacuum lines. I would look thru the early EFI manuals and see how the idle it handled.
Your car looks very original under the hood.

Check for vacuum leaks first. Google around to learn how to do it.

Short video but it's right there bolted to the front of the manifold with coolant lines and a two wire plug. I don't think yours has one.

This thread has some good pictures.
I cant seem to find out how the older FI models handle idle control.

Thanks for you insight and information. Going to dive into it tomorrow. Thanks
Re: 1987 Accord LXi rough idel at stop lights
No problem.
one tip is do not adjust the idle but using the throttle cable. it should have some slack in it at idle so the throttle body can do its job.

btw - I see what you mean about the engine looking like an 86, not an 87. I just watched this Motor Week 1986 Honda Accord LXi Sedan | Retro Review - YouTube review of an 86 and it looks the same as mine. I wonder if the IACV is on the opposite side.
