83 stalls when put in gear, idles fine otherwise
Im starting with replacing the carb, only because its difficult and I ran across an NOS unit for cheap, AND all the vac lines look brand new, possibly recently replaced. Dealer who sold to me, specializes in older collectible cars on ebay, has quite good feedback, so I believe him when he says it ran great for the month they had it before the sale.
ANy other thoughts on why it would die when put in drive or reverse, and not otherwise? Any mixture adjustments or other things I should know about the Kein carb before dropping it in? Anyone done a like for like Kein carb swap on the 81-83's before? Any tricks?
thanks fellas...

Try driving it for a while and see if the problem persists. Bugs can develop if the car sits and they can also reverse themselves once driven regularly again. I wouldn't jump into a Keihin just for giggles. It's an ugly can of worms that can go horribly wrong if you don't know what you're doing.

I know what youre saying but its impossible to drive. Put in gear, it dies. since I took possession of it, its never idled on its own at stops, in gear. I have to rev it a bit, or put it park and then be quick about putting it in drive and giving it some gas. I dont like doing that to the transmission. OK, I'll back off the carb swap, but wondering what else can do aside from hunting for a vac leak. Were auto tran torque converters an issue with this generation?

OK, giving this a bump. Was away from home for a few months, but back at this. I want to get her running and enjoy it. Ive heard mention of a carb swap to a Weber 2bbl? Anyone know about those? Im also hearing my Kein stock carb is prone to many issues? Should this be something to consider?

Dunno much about the 2g's but I would check you float setting. It is probably low or has gotten fuel soaked. Happens a lot on old carbs. Make sure you have a few gallons of fresh gas in the tank the gauge might be off. Recheck all vacuum lines for leaks.
