85 accord poor fuel economy
hi, new here and glad i found a specific forum for this car. I was hoping there might be a common problem or something to check on this.
i got the accoard a few years ago from an older friend who had owned it most of its life and taken good care of it. its only got 160k and everything is in pretty decent shape.
its a manual, has good compression, yet it gets 22mpg on the highway, the exhaust smells super rich. i took the carb apart becsuse i had it sitting a while and it wouldnt start, and replaced the emulsion tube? gaskets / o rings, and cleaned all the jets and passages / etc, otherwise it looked fine, its aparently a recently rebuilt carb. ive heard these carburators.can be a problem, but i really dont want to invest in a weber or something like.that for this car. It is a california model btw.
ive looked.at the vaccum nest somewhat closely and i cant see any obvious leeks. iv
any suggestions on what i should check yet or what might be the problem?
thanks allot
Re: 85 accord poor fuel economy
22 mpg is not too bad.
I got rid of possible vacuum nest problems by using only vacuum lines that operate the carb.
I get better mileage by leaving both carb barrels connected.
Tried using only the back one, but mileage went down.
If you are in Cali, get out now. Too many laws, too much BS.
Too little brains in the govt. Cities going bankrupt. Gas taxes going up.
Cali crushed car from Fast and Furious when it could have been sold,
and then cali complains about having no money. Just to name a few.
Re: 85 accord poor fuel economy
I assume you're smelling gas at idle? If so, then you need to adjust the idle mixture screw. Read up in the manual on the proper way to do it, or just use your nose and tweak it till it smells right.
Re: 85 accord poor fuel economy
Incidentally, 22 MPG is about right for those 2G's. They didn't do very well on gas.
