Another motor mount question
Since someone brought up motor mount, does anyone know where to get the front mount for the 86 LXi ? Everywhere on the internet quote the non-LXi mount as a fit for LXi. I did try to fit one in but it is thicker/higher than the LXi mount so the passenger side of the engine tilting up. I ended up putting back the old mount so the engine is back to horizontal.

I've run into this problem and for many years I was never able to replace the front motor mount Every brand was too tall. I now have the motor mount front rear adapter plates that hold the energy suspension GM transmission mount. A member here makes the motor mount plates Oddball adapters.com and the mounts you can get at almost any AutoZone / Advanced Auto Parts store

Gonna have to do this one.

Cool ! I like this idea ! It seems like his website is down at the moment though. Do you by any chance have the part number of the GM mount ?

Re: Another motor mount question
The taller mount uses a different mounting bracket.
If you get the taller mount, use the engine bracket from a carb engine and it will work.

Re: Another motor mount question
I found another thread saying to install rear mount at the front mount location by using the set of spare mounting holes (at the front cross member). Before I can get the right adapter for the GM tranny mount, I opted for this idea as an interim solution.
The rear mount fits perfectly at the front mount location. The engine sits horizontal. The vibration is definitely greatly reduced. With the old front mount, the shaking from the engine will make the shade for the sunroof rattles (when the car sits at red light with rpm down to 750). Now with the rear mount (as front), it no longer buzz the shade and its quiet.
Overall, the car is lot more comfortable to drive and vibration is reduced a lot. Many will question how long the rear mount will last at the front location. Its still an open question. I don't drive crazy and I baby my car so it may last long but I don't know for now. However my experience is very positive after driving for a few days.

Re: Another motor mount question
How has this worked as a long-term solution? I actually got all the mounts on my 86 LXi replaced by my Honda specialist mechanic - and noticed that the engine does not sit quite horizontal - that it is slightly high on the passenger side - is there any problem with this? Perahaps the mount settles a little bit after a few days? It didn't solve the vibration in drive problem - but it didn't make it worse either.

Re: Another motor mount question
Mine does it too where it sits a bit crooked. Though, I polyurethaned mine but still... hasn't been a problem yet
-
Re: Another motor mount question
The mount is definitely not LXi mount if your engine is not horizontal. The only mount available now is for carb engine. Your mount will not settle after a few days.
I have been using the rear mount for the front location rotated 90 degree and it is holding well. I figure if it breaks, its just another $25 part.

Re: Another motor mount question
I was just looking at rockauto.com it list four mounts.
DEA/MARMON RIDE CONTROL A6521
WESTAR EM8005
PIONEER 606521
ANCHOR 8005
It doesn't even state there is a difference between carb and FI models. Are you saying or do you know if these three are all mounts for carbs and not FI.

Re: Another motor mount question
I have exhausted over all these years trying to find a front mount for my LXi. The mounts available are all for carbs although they DO NOT state clearly in the catalog. Rockauto will not take any responsibility if we order a part that says fit according to their catalog but actually it isn't. The FI front mount is not available anymore either OEM or aftermarket.
Another part that is having the same issue with FI/carb is the vacuum advance on the distributor. Years ago I ordered one based on Rockauto's catalog saying it is compatible. After receiving the part, it is not for LXi. I called them, they blamed me for not verifying with the manufacturer before ordering and refused to accept return. I told them it is not fair since they listed as fit. Finally, they said will let me return if I pay shipping and a 15% restocking fee. I don't like business attitude like this. If they cannot verify compatibility, don't list as a fit.
From that point, I minimize ordering from them. If I have to order from rockauto, I will search forums, manufacturer info, internet etc to make sure someone has ordered before and its a fit. I cannot imagine a company does not take responsibility for a wrong part listed. Another thing (a side note) is they may be cheap on price but shipping from different locations can add cost up quickly.
I still have a carb front mount sitting in my garage that was installed once and then immediately taken out. The passenger side of the engine literally is about 3/4" higher compared to the driver side. I think if I keep using the wrong mount, the passenger side CV axle will break easily due to change in rotating axis alignment.

Re: Another motor mount question
Problem is, I have a carb engine and the front mounts still cause this leaning issue. One thing I did notice with the latest one is that the thread was a solid inch longer than the previous one.
Everywhere I look doesnt say anything about there being a difference in the front mount by transmission choice so I dont know why the threads on this one are longer.

Re: Another motor mount question
I haven't inspected a front mount but is there possibly a way to modify it and cut it down to size at all.
-
Re: Another motor mount question
InAccordance:
You may have an FI bracket (the part that bolted between the body of the engine and the mount). My understanding is the brackets are interchangeable. If you switch to the carb bracket, then the mount will let the engine sit horizontally. You should be able to find pictures about their difference.
I have posted in the buy/sell section before asking for a carb bracket so I can use the carb front mount to no avail.

My quick answer will be no. I thought about this too but ditched the idea. I'm pretty happy with using the rear mount at the front.

Re: Another motor mount question
Possible I suppose but it'd hard to imagine why someone would've switched those brackets. Still the original engine and I have service records going back to august 1989. Nothing in there about an engine swap or replacing mounts. As far as I could tell, those were original too until the front one broke a few months ago.

Re: Another motor mount question
have you guys tried some of the parts store chains and see what they offer. I have had good luck with Orielly made stuff that last few years.
I would imagine the returns would not be an issue.

Re: Another motor mount question
I am about to start replacing the motor mounts in my 87 LX-i. Good thing that I checked here first. So the front engine mount that Autozone sold me wont hold the engine level? Is it better for me to keep the original front motor mount?

Re: Another motor mount question
So I changed the motor mounts again.
This time I went to a Honda dealer that had a master tech that has been working on Hondas since 1982. He showed me the replacement mounts had broke again and the culprit was the dog bone mount which wasn’t originally replaced by me yet was broken. Thus jarring the other mounts.
OEM parts were not available (of course - my one frustration about Honda vs. GM - they don’t support their parts for long - GM on the other hand seems to support their product forever) but he ordered from O’Reilly. Success. The engine doesn’t vibrate nearly as bad in drive idle anymore. It’s not perfect but it’s not shaking the dash anymore at 750-800 rpm. Haven’t checked for level just yet but I will when I’m done with my present business trip.

Yeah I would be interested to know which one ORiley sells is compatiable with LXi. I checked their online catalog before and did not find one that fits LXi.
