    New Accelerator Cable

My accelerator cable broke and was hanging up. This made the throttle butterfly stick and caused a dangerous condition. I tried a patch and lube, which only made things worse. I can't buy a new cable and I'm not interested in a used cable.

Here's what the old cable looks like. You can see that it's really long, starting above the booster and snaking around the brake fluid reservoir before heading over to the throttle butterfly.

I bought a cable for a 3rd gen Prelude (I think). You can see the brand and part number below.

You can see the new cable lying next to the old one. The new CABLE is SHORTER than the old one, but the HOUSING is LONGER. To make the cable work, you'll have to trim the housing by 3/4".

I was hoping to use the pipe cutter in the photo above to cut the housing, but that didn't work. So I had to use a cutting wheel on my Dremel.

There are formed ends on each end of the cable, so you can't pull the housing off the cable. You have to cut VERY carefully through the housing WITHOUT cutting into the cable inside. Once you have it cut to length, you'll then have to cut the waste piece of housing in half to remove it from the cable. It's nerve-wracking, but do-able if you clamp and cut carefully.

Here you can see the new cable in place.

I think it looks a lot better. It's a more direct path, without snaking around one side of the brake fluid reservoir before coming back. It also seems to work well.

Well, it's illegal to call someone by a gender pronoun they don't like now, so who knows?

I should mention that the way to remove the old cable from the firewall is to turn it counter-clockwise about a quarter-turn. That will save someone else boogering up their firewall trying to pry on it.

    Re: New Accelerator Cable

I tried to install an Integra cable but the ends are different on the pedal side. This is a good idea. My throttle cable is old and worn down. I just fixed it up by using a hose and clamping it down. still works but does not look as nice.
