    Squeaking when turning

When I turn my steering wheel, something squeaks, not the wheel itself, but something within the car. Any ideas?

Like a slipping belt? or a metal rub type squeak?

It's hard to say, I don't think it's a belt slipping, but it doesn't sound like metal, just a normal squeak. It just happens when I turn the steering wheel. I also checked my P/S fluid, and it is good.

The belt noise would be usually if you are cranking it almost all the way. Does it do it the whole time you are turning or only for a second? I don't really think that anything with steering could squeak except a belt.

Mine does that too. It's not a loud squeek, just a little one that you only hear if the radio is off. On mine it just sounds like something rubbing somewhere in the steering column. Gotta take it apart and maybe spray some lubrication on the moving parts.

I was just talking to me friend about it, and he says that it might not be the belt. Supposedly it can be the pump itself. If you lock the wheel, but still try to push it, the hydrlic devices in the pump themseles can over-push, and squeak. But that's only if it's locked.

It happens when I'm driving, and only when I turn the wheel. It sounds like it could be coming from the steering column, and yeah, I only hear it if I'm not bumping tunes.

If the problem sounds like it is inside the sterring column, dont worry about it!

A friend had a similar problem... the mechanic said its a or ring or something (I forgot) within the sterring column. He wasnt too concerned about it.

I just had a problem similar to what you are describing, mine made a squeak when i turned the wheel, hit a bump, also squeaked everytime i pushed down on that side when parked, it sounded like the strut mount, i sprayed it with lubricant, but it didn't help.

I had the problem for 3 weeks until one day my lower ball joint snapped right off, it turned out that it had no grease left in it and was metal upon metal, and mine didn't have a grease fitting. That was a very fun moment when it happened, lol.

P.S- I do not have any squeaking noises anymore.

I'm having that problem too and today when I get home from since I will be spraying some WD-40 on where I believe the sqeaks are coming from.

The problem with mine is that it only squeals when the tires are on the ground and when I steer. If the tires of off the ground, there would be no squeals even if I was to steer.

Anyhow, if the WD-40 fails, then I guess I'll have to apply some sort of lubrication on it.

    Re: Squeaking when turning

un bolt the power sterring pump and pull it as far away from the motor as you can also take a turkey baser empty the power steering and fuull itwith trans fluid , then dump it again and fill back up with perrfed fluid for the cost of replacing the belt and changing fluid i would start there ,

ps if you turn you wheel all way and hold it does it make a constant squeel , if so the above procedure will defentally fix it unless you have a leak in your p/s system
