    1987 lxi brake upgrade

My current brake setup consists of ATE slotted rotors and Hawk HPS pads up front and stock drums in the back. But as I'm starting to get more serious in track racing, I want to have a better setup. Im most interested in running the Integra type R calipers and Legend rotors up front. But I've noticed that most of the people that do this conversion own 88 and 89 accords. So I'm just wondering if the type r calipers will work with the 86/87 caliper mounts, or do I have to convert to 88/89 knuckles first? Thanks

I'm about 100% sure you need the lxi knuckles first. They have the 10.3 inch disc brakes.

I don't think there is anything in my thread about it because I never tried it on the smaller knuckles.

IIRC the other guys that have been messing around with the brakes use the 88-89 front knuckles for the larger dscs like blue accord said. Also the stock master cylinder is bigger for the larger front brakes

My 87 LXi uses 9.5" rotors - Autozone.com says the 88 and 89 with fuel injection has 10.3" rotors. Now I want 10.3" rotors!

that sounds typical niles, my 87 hatch had the smaller rotors as well before i swapped it to the larger 88-89 system. Was well worth it, altho the smaller MC on the 87 did not provide enough pressure and would only start grabbing at the bottom of the throw. the MC could have been bad for all i know. I do mrecall the main differance with this swap was the mounting location / bracket for the larger setup, I remember i tried fitting everything on the 87 knuckles but ended up swapping those out to the 88-89 ones. If you have to do that might as well rebuild the knuckle and give it a new ball joint and bearing for piece of mind

Do you know if the larger brake booster would fit an 87?

The larger booster and mc from the 88-89 fi sccords will fit the 86-87 and 88-89 carbed accords.

I think were just referring to the master cylinder bore size. LXI is 15/16" and the DX is 7/8"They swap out. You can keep your booster unless you dont have one on your brake setup?

For the price, if you goto the LXi knuckles, I would just go straight to the 11.1" rotors, calipers etc and not even fool with the 10.3" stuff. I just saw D509 (type r) pads for like 7$ on rockauto. But you will need 15" or larger rims.

niles, everything for the swap its a complete bolt on, you can use the 87's front flex lines with the larger brakes and caliper. however the mounting location requires you to make stand offs for that two bolt bracket. it works but i'd suggest getting the proper flex lines or upgrade to the SS ones. mine was a 87lxi that i put 89 lxi stuff on it
