#$@&%*! pulley bolt won't break loose

I'm sure you guys have said it a thousand times but what is the deal with the pulley bolt. I've soaked the bolt with pb blaster, used an impact, tried a breaker bar with a cheater on it, and I've tried to heat the bolt with a torch. I've even tried turning it the other way thinking it was a reverse thread. Been hammering away on this bolt for 2 days now with no luck. Any tips to break it loose?

I bought an air compressor and an impact wrench. That seemed to do it.

Alternatively, you can take it to a local shop and ask them to break it loose for you. Then drive it home and complete the repair. Be sure to torque the bolt correctly when you re-assemble so you don't have this trouble again.

Can won't drive atm because the timing belt is broken so taking to a shop is out of the question.

Anyone know if it's regular thread or reverse thread? Would heating up the pulley instead of the bolt would be better?

It's a standard thread. Lefty loosey. Have you broken any tools on it yet?

I had trouble with this bolt also. Even purchased an impact gun with my air compressor and it would not budge. Then a friend brought over a Professional battery powered impact gun and it came off like it was nothing. So get a bigger or better impact gun.

Ya also don't use any extensions you loose allot of power on an impact with extensions.

Sometimes those things are really on there, and smaller impact guns may not be enough. Get a bigger gun. It also helps to put some inward pressure (towards the crank) on the gun to keep the socket from bouncing around on the bolt.

What is important,as long as the bolt is not damaged,it must be possible to loosen...

Finally got that bolt off the crank pulley. That one goes down in my book as one of the tightest bolts I've ever tried to break loose.

Now on to getting it ready for the new belt. I tried to find the timing marks but I'm not seeing them. Back to the forums and I'm reading that they are located on the flywheel? I'm assuming there is some sort of viewing plate or something i can remove to see it.

After owning and working on DSMs for the past 10 years I thought a good 'ole Honda would be cake to work on.

Yes, its a little rubber plug where the engine and transmission bolt together right below the EGR pipe going to the exhaust manifold, it is also right next to the engine serial number plate. The camshaft pulley has two marks, one on each side that you line up even with the cylinder head to time the cam properly.

Maybe this can help you...oldschool way..find the timing marks..

1)Make sure the piston #1 from left(driver side)at highest position..
2)open the sparkplug #1 from left..
3)put an long screwdriver in the plug hole..
4)turn the pulley untill screwdriver being the top notch..
5)when you got it,thats your timing mark...
6)also watch for the mark at the flywheel once..

Just finished putting it all back together. Can't believe that thing started right up like nothing ever happened. For a 300k+ mile car it's a trooper for sure. Thanks everyone for the help and advice.

trying taking one off of a D series, even with the special required holding tool, this is nothing compared to that SOB, I weigh over 220 pounds, with a 5 foot breaker bar on the bolt, and the pulley locked with the tool, I still had to jump up and down on the bar,when it finally broke, I thought I had snapped the bolt
