The only one I like is the lucas company espically their manual tranny oil but their engine stuff it good also
Prolly does a little, but i wouldnt count on it saving your engine if you run it out of oil or somthing.

I had a '89 New Yorker with 230k miles on it and it was smoking a little bit so I put a can of restore in it and withen 2 or 3 days it was smoking like crazy so I got rid of it, never used the stuff again.
The vast majority of these additive producers have been sued by the Federal Trade Commission and in some cases, other private parties.
They are for the most part, "snake oil". Save your money and simply do frequent oil changes. It's always best to change oil when it's hot. Doing so allows for a faster drain and the crud inside is far more likely to exit the engine when the oil is draining.

Hi Guys
Thanx for all your advice.
I agree with the frequent oil changes, do mine every 3k miles as I do a lot of short journeys.
Use Semi-Synth at the mo, used about quarter litre in the last 1k miles.
Any adavntage in going to fully synthetic? Engine has done 137k.
Cheers
Andy
when i got my car my engine was in good shape, so i desided to add some additives, and it killed after a few hundred miles. if you read the manual. it says not to add anything to the oil.

That's why I don't put in any oil additives. My oil is just fine. What kind of smoke are you burning? Many you can just do an engine flush when you get your next oil change. I did mine myself.
Not getting any smoke, have done the engine flush ... was thinking of additives more for extra fuel economy and to quieten the mechanical noise a bit ....Originally posted by Mike's89AccordLX

But I think I will leave well alone now on the oil side of things .... Really should check/adjust the valve clearances![]()
