    safe rpms?

the tranny doesn't shift into 4th, and so i was wondering what rpms i should drive at for long periods of time(30+ min). the speed limit is 65, and at 65 i'm at 4000rpms. that's what i've been doing when i have to go on the freeway(like this weekend for weekend drill). anyways, any thoughts would be appreciated.

    You have an auto?

you may want to loosen the TV cable or make sure you are in D4.

it's an auto, and when i put it in d4, and it wants to be in 4th, it just revs like it's in neutral. the previous owners had a mechanic look at it and the mechanic had said that 4th was out and to not drive faster than 60mph which is 3500k. i really wish all LX-i's were manuals, but i've seen more autos for sale than manuals

Mine's at auto LX-i, I'd say don't drive it above 3300-3500 RPMS. Just a guess though.

I have the same problem, but when I'm in D4 and I push the gas, I hear SHING SHING SHING CLUNK BLAM. I've been driving around in D3 for well over a month and my average speed is around 70-80kph, sitting at about 3k rpms most of the time. Gas goes quick but as long as you don't speed it'll be fine.

Um I believe when you lose 4th gear that the selectors are shot, and its a gear or two that can go bad esp if you shift from reverse to drive without being completely stopped or shift into reverse when not stopped, itll grind that gear.

that would make sense, i think. whenever i put it into 2, it starts out in two instead of one, and so i get going really slow. i thought it might be related..., i don't know auto trannies all that well.
