Teg gear swap and LSD

Guys this is a how to on a teg gear, lsd and reco.
Some of these steps may not apply to you if you do choose to do this. I hope that this will help. Good luck.

Things to buy
Cg teg transmission
Transmission synchro, bearing kit
B16/18 lsd
Accord 5th gear (optional)
New main and counter shaft nuts.

Tools required
Socket set
Soft rubber mallet
Air compressor, air blower and rattle gun are a must have
Bearing puller
Circlip pliars
Hammer
5mm punch and others.
A press
Do yourself a favor and print out the transmission rebuild section of the workshop manual.
A camera comes in handy also.
Screw drivers
Pry bars
torque wrench

Step one separating the cases.

Start with stripping the a20 trany, by removing the black cap 8x 10mm bolts. Remove the black cap. Now bend the locking tabs back on the shaft nuts. Use a rattle gun and remove the nuts (input shaft is left hand thread). Remove the roll pin from the 5th gear shift fork with a 5mm punch. Now remove the gears, bearings, collar, synchro hub etc. Keeping note on which way everything goes. Please note that these pics are of the cg trans but is exactly the same for the a20a trans.

Now remove the 3x selector rod bolts being careful not to lose the ball bearing and springs. Then remove the reverse switch.





now remove the 12x 12mm bolts for the casing.



Use a soft mallet and give the casing a few taps from side to side just to break the seal, then you can lift the casing up, may have to use a big screw driver or pry bar to help it up.



Now with the cases apart this is the time to take plenty of photos just in case especially the selector mechanism as its a bit tricky.

Step 2 removing the gears. Remove the shaft and reverse idler gear.

Then remove the selector shaft, 5th/reverse shift shaft and the shift mechanism.









Lift up the reverse shift fork so you can access the 3x 10mm bolts for the bearing plate.





Now its time to remove the shafts. They have to come out together complete with selector forks. 1st grab both shafts (lol grab both shafts) and give them a wiggle whilst trying to pull them up (omg just keeps getting better lmao) try and keep both of them even as possible. You may have to use a small pry bar if it doesn't move, use a screw driver/pry bar. Once they are free hold them together and lift them out as one.

Time to remove the diff. You might be lucky and all you have to do is turn the casing upside down and it pops out from its own weight or it just needs some persuading. If it does just remove the diff side seal you will see the diff bearing just give it a few taps and the diff should come out.

Step 3 Put all a20 gears in the bin lol!

Remove housing bearings, seals etc so that the a20 casing are completely empty. This helps for cleaning.

Step 4 have holes welded.

This step obviously not for everyone lol. This housing was out of my 1st lude I went through a few tranys but this one was the least damaged and for some reason I kept it for all this time Good thing I did Hahahaha!







And the culprit to the damage.



Damn roll pin shears! Went through 3x boxes because of these bastards.

Step 5 repeat steps 1 through 3 but with the cg trany.

Step 6 Clean all the gears, synchro hubs, casings spacers... well everything. Clean the a20 casing as well. Here's my lil setup lol



Step 7 Once everything is clean and dry your ready to put new seals and bearings back into the casings. Install new selector shaft seal, install selector shaft. When installing the shaft turn the shaft to the side so that the groves are away the detent ball. Push the ball with a screw driver and push the shaft then turn it so the groves locate on the ball. Also note center punch the screw heads to lock them into place.











Install diff gear on the diff. Install side bearings then install the diff into the housing. Now check for clearances, put the other housing on look through the shaft and see if there is any interference with heads of the bolts. Modify if necessary.

Step 8. This is the fun and the easiest part. Reassemble the shafts. Use new synchros.



Step 9 Putting it all together.
Once the shafts are complete they can go back into the housing. You have to install them the same way they came out complete with the selector shafts.



Install selector mechanism, reverse selector shaft, reverse idler gear and gear shaft.

Step 10. Finishing touches.
Once all the shafts are in place selector mechanism ect are in place put the gasket and housings together. Don't force the casing if it doesn't sit all the way check the selector pin. Bolt it all together. Assembly 5th gear install and torque it down. Check that it selects all gears and turns nice and freely. Put the black cap reverse switch and your done.





I hope this helps and I have covered everything. Good luck its not too hard to do. It might be daunting for some but trust me you will be very satisfied that you built your own transmission.

Interesting, but what is a CG Integra?
edit: ahh 1st generation Integra Dohc (integra also came with sohc engines in Europe & Japan).

CG is the gearbox code on the earliest dohc zc engine. the one that comes in JDM At civics and crxs and 1g integras
