How long can you let a car sit with our crappy gas? How about 3 years! God bless these little jewels.
I parked the SE-i 3 years ago, intending to replace the power steering hose. No Stabil (yes, I'm an idiot) . 2 years ago I started it (1/8 tank) and dumped in a can of Seafoam. I can't remember if I put Stabil in or not. Then I let it sit for 2 years, hating myself. Last week, I bought another car and I needed the garage space. I crossed my fingers, put in another battery, and turned the key. Bingo! The CEL came on, it wouldn't idle very well for a few minutes, the garage was filled with oil smoke and the most god-awful sick-gas smell you can imagine. I poured in another can of Seafoam and 6 gallons of fresh gas. When I restarted it, the CEL went out, the roughness departed, the idle returned, and the car said, "what now?" I mean, how loyal can a servant be? I washed it, reminded myself that I had had it since 2001 (bought from original owner) and that it hadn't spent more than probably 2 weeks out of a garage it's whole life. The mint leather, the Eibach/revalved-twice Bilstein suspension (now unobtainable), the bronze-tinted windshield that I drove to Montreal to get because it was the last one in the Western hemisphere, the Bose system that still works (albeit with Infinity speakers), the Hella conversion, the dark side markers, the really nice OEM SE-i specific wheels. Sigh. So it's gotta go. But only to someone that won't run it into the ground. Frankly, I don't know if there is anyone left - I haven't come here for awhile.
