    Alternator question

I was wondering if an 85 alternator will work on my 88lx. It's on ebay and they dont give much info except for the fact that it is guaranteed no d.o.a. You can't beat a rebuilt alternator for 9 bucks. Also anybody know if you really need a catalytic converter. I need to take it off because of some reasons but will it cause my car to lose some power or anything?

Well, don't trust the alternator. I would feel safe if it was an 86, but 85, that's totally different.

According to www.hondaautomotiveparts.com they're totally different part numbers and all, so I'd say no, it probably wouldn't work

If you want convenience and a fair price, just got to Autozone. They will test your old one for free too, and their alternators are like $90. If you buy one off the web, you will have to ship the core back to them too... kinda of a pain unless the price is real good. I got one from Autozone 36k miles ago and its fine.

I went through this with a rebuilt from nappa, It was for an 86 but the factory plug didn't fit. I had to get a plug from an 85 or something at the junkyard. some of the rebuilds use an old style regulator . that's why it didn't fit. I'm just lucky I found one couldn't drive for a week. also you ccan't just buy a plug, they are just not available. BUYER BEWARE

Yeah wont fit, the regulators are different (plug and stuff) not to mention the pulley and other little stuff, not worth the headache to make it fit imo

The one I bought from nappa was supposed to fit my car. The plugs are totally different. They kept insisting that it was my fault, if the plug don't fit, the plug don't fit.

The junkyard. If you get lucky, you might find one that'll last a long time.
