    Question sipe 'em?

have you guys heard of this? i've seen it at a few tire places, is it worth the $40 to have this done? or should i not bother with it? i read that it ight not be the best for passenger tires...

I had it done on my Prelude wheels and it works great. Don't do it if you want to be able to burn out because it makes it a lot harder, but if you want traction then I recommend it.

It does void the tire warranty though. Some car magazine did a test of winter tires, siped tires, studded tires, and chains. I don't remember the results, but I remember that the siping did better than most people thought.

nevermind, I just found out. Every article I just read on it said that there was a great improvement in traction in all weather conditions. On the flip side though, it seems as though this does reduce the overall tire life, and can lead to "tread chunking" depending on how hard you are on the tires. Also, as mentioned before, you do run the risk of a warranty void by having this done.

at les schwab they recoommended it, and said 85% of the people that buy tires get the siping...

anyway i am sure it didnt void my warranty, though now i am curious since they didnt mention it! lol.

what they told me, was they basically cut slits width wise in the tread your tires... so they can grip better.
