    phones & devices

Ok I guess the discussion thread got lost, was pretty old anyway.

    Suggestions & comments fine
Im considering switching to a W8 windows phone nokia 822 which I know the low res sux but otherwise its very easy on the eyes. Once 8.1 is officially released by carriers this will be a very cool phone imo. Sure I can get developers copy of the os but I havnt made the sim switch yet.
Any experiences with these HTC & Nokias? I think the low res could be a deal breaker if I want to use it with a projector and interactive board, needless to say It would need an uninvented ? usb interface that would send image plus act as a periphrial controler.
so far the apps Ive seen are mostly dveloped overseas like India & Eurasia, which may not work well in US

Sorry if I missed the first part of a discussion, but what are you going to be using this phone for? You want to send the phone screen to a projector through the USB? That would be cool, but be a lot of work to set up. Have you looked at using a newer Android phone with a Chromecast? I have one and it works really well with my Nexus 4, 5 and 7, Droid Turbo, and Moto X. Here is a video showing the best phones for the year as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6pPIG3EvAs

Yeah I guess I should elaborate, and I have a chromecast but its limited. Im using an ipod touch and a galaxy s3. Not a big fan of the s3 in its current form lol.
I dont need the newest and the best (moto x )
In particular I would like to be able to use the windows phone to test/operate interactive white boards for like classrooms. It can be done with some w8 tablets & hybrids but the phones are lagging in development. My Nokia is different than most in that it had sd slot supporting up to 64 gb which would hold say Permethean Activeboard software but maybe Zune or a newer developed bluetooth or wifi hotspot to get the video image up to the projector then the mini usb to 2.0 for the interactive software to run the board. I currently us a laptop but its much better to travel light. Im not a big gamer on the phone and mostly use it for a camera & communication, research & navigation. It would be great to be able to use it for spreadsheet editing and thiwhere a laptop usually is required.
Resolution on the 822 may be a deal breaker though as i mentioned. The interactive boards require more res than that phone has so I couldnt set up the board but just test it.

I don't know much about the Windows phones, but my Android HTC One's motherboard crapped out after a year. Nice phone otherwise, except for being a little too big for my taste.

I picked up a Moto G LTE unlocked on Amazon for $189. Enjoying it so far and the display looks just as good as the HTC's. I've had phones in the past that cheaped out on the display, and it really ruins the experience. I feel pretty stupid for shelling out $500 for the HTC when this does everything I need it to do for a fraction of the price. It has some kind of screen casting feature, but I've never tried it out.

I agree that the S3 is not very nice (my sister has one and it has made her think Android is bad), but these are much better phones like the Moto G and Nexus 4 that you can get for under $200 of contract. Have you looked at the Nexus 4 with slimport support? You may also be able to use MHL, though that is not fully supported. You can see more here: Nexus 4 Slimport HDMI Adapter Review: $30 Micro USB to HDMi Cable

I have only used Windows Phone 8/8.1 on the Lumia 521 so maybe that is why I don't really like it, but it just seems like Android has so much more support and better hardware. It is especially nice if you get Nexus hardware as it is very able to run hack projects. Just go to xda-developers.com and you can see all that these devs have done.

No prob. Let me know if you have any questions about how to set it up. I work in the mobile tech field and know a lot about this stuff if you need help. I can also help you get really good deals on mobile devices.
