Question Little box under intake and next to oil filter

Hello everyone, I have a 1986 Honda DX 2.0 four door with an automatic transmission that I'm swapping to a Weber carb and was wondering if anyone knows what the little box just under the intake manifold and next to the oil filter (passengers side) is for. It has a tube attached to the top of it that looks more like it would be for air then water. the box also has a soft foamy like cover on it. I've looked in the repair book and many places online but can't find any info as too what it is. Thanks for any and all help

It's the PCV breather chamber. The tube on top goes to the PCV valve. It also has a tube from the bottom to the oil pan and it connects to a hole in the block.

it's the breather box for the pcv system, keep the system as it helps keep the inside of the engine clean, I can't remember if it works with the conversion, if it doesn't, you can use most pcv valves, as long as you figure out how to connect a valve inline to the top of the box, and the other end just goes to intake manifold vacuum, the older Datsun pcv valves are a good match, and they are all metal, they usually have them in the help section of most auto parts places

The box you are asking about should be honda part # 11850-PH2-000. All it is is a breather / oil mist separator that condenses any oil mist and drains back into the engine.

Does a "catch can" remove this system or work with it as a add on? I've seen the (how to) about making one but can't find any info on how to install one. I'll keep surching but thought maybe someone might know.

Does any one know what is the diameter of the breather canster hole in top because I broke the plastic where the pcv valve connects and now I have a check engine light on
