You could try sanding them but I think putting some rust converter on them and then smoothing it up is a better idea. Then you can also spray some primer on and paint them.

    Here is a How-To:

How to paint your brake calipers, drums

P.S.: I guess now you see at least one advantage of stock wheels, they hide the brakes.

Sand them with a dremel, clean them really well and primer them. IF its really bad structural rust (meaning the metal is actualyl chipping off) id look at replacing them.

A company that has a great product for this is the east wood company www.eastwoodcompany.com they have a great selection of products for all your restoration needs. they have an excellent caliper coating that is $47.99 it comes in gloss red, gloss yellow, gloss blue, silver, black, gloss green, gloss white, and gloss purple. these are not k-mart paints these are designed just for brake calipers. this is a kit with a two part activator system and is a kit that contains everything you need.

hmm. i live here where every thing rusts quickly. i live kinda by salt water. neway should i maybe repaint my drums and calipers? im thinkin the drums silver and the calipers red. sound good. ive seen that on a 3gee before and it looked great. i know that rust converter works wonders on rusted stuff.
