    New 1g accord owner

Hello guys. I recently purchased a 81 accord with 4,336 original miles on it. It was damaged when new and passed from person to person with intentions of fixing it. It had a donor car at one point and came with two of every part!

Just saying hello, I'll be posting about my car and asking yall a few questions.

    and pics of the car!

Also I doubt it only has 8k miles on it. The odometer is 5 digits and I kept seeing people claiming they have low mileage 1g when the odo could have read 100k, 200k or even more

Thanks! It's original, has the same tires from 81, plates from 81, Honda oil filter (I changed it). The car was wrecked when new and never fixed.

Need more pics then!! Judging by how shiny the engine parts are I wouldn't doubt the 8k miles now!

It was put into a ditch on a dirt road is what I've been told. The front clip (fenders and hold) are off the donor car. The roof is wrinkled, but there is a replacement off the donor car. Mechanicaly it has just been sitting. Cleaned the gas tank and cleared the hydraulic lines. It has a few other dents on the quarters and one by the mirror that I have already hammer/dollied out. I'm using it to practice body work, which has gone good so far. The only problem I'm at now is the fuel pump is not turning on. But I have other threads for that.

That roof seems like a bitch to fix. You gonna weld in another roof skin to fix that?

I'm going to try to cut the whole thing off at the pillars. Seems like the easiest way to do it, as long as I can keep everything lined up correctly

That roof looks bad. Have you checked for frame damage at all? It would suck to spend a bunch of time and money getting it back on the road, only to find out it has a high speed shimmy or screwy tire wear or some other kind of issue that involves putting it on a frame rack. Glad you're keeping it out of the wrecking yard though.

Sounds like an amazing story. Hope it has been well stored in the intervening years.

Useful for reference perhaps. (Though obviously body side outer was one piece for production instead of two)

Or I guess you could get an appropriate sized sunroof from a wrecker & not be too guilty if there's some filler remaining in the roof.

Replaced the fuel pump, found the correct fuel relay (needed to be bypassed) and had to clear out the in tank pickup. Also had to replace the rubber fuel lines. But she started right up, and sounded oh so smooth.

The car only runs for ten seconds, and only after sitting for a few minutes. I rebuilt the carb and have the same problem. Fuel is now leaking from the middle (secondary?) barrel. Does anybody have experience on these carbs?

Rebuilt the keihin carb. Had the same problems. I'll end up going with a weber when the time comes. Click image for larger version.
