    Accord fuel pump voltage

Hey guys. I've got a 81 accord sedan I'm trying to get fired up after sitting since... 1981. I am following the Honda manual trying to find out why I do not get fuel to the carb. The pump will not prime with the key on, or turn on while cranking. The pump only sees 6-7 volts while cranking, and none while the key is on. When I try to bypass the cutoff relay like the manual says it blows the fuse in the fuse panel immediately when I turn the key on.

I have replaced the pump just Incase. And I tried a hot wire to both pumps. (God-awful noises they make lol)

Does anybody have suggestions on why the voltage seems to be cut in half?

These fuel pumps work with a relay that turns on with engine rotation. If you jumped the correct wires you should hear the fuel pump prime up and eventually turn off when it hits full pressure. If you jump the wire and something starts smoking then you might have a short somewhere. I'd start by making sure that the ground has no power and the hot has 12v at the relay. Work your way backwards from there.

    Re: Accord fuel pump voltage

I've got 12v at the connector and past the cutoff relay. I was trying to jump the 12v and the ground (face palm) that's why it blew the fuses. But even with the Hotwire it gets 6.9 volts to the pump, the pump will even click on and off if the voltage jumps to 7 but that's it. This is while cranking. 0 voltage when I turn the key on.

Where does the fuel pump ground to? The bolt that holds the drivers tail light?

Yes it grounds on the tail light bolt. It could be dirty or rusted out.

Tick tick tick tick tick. God awful for sure lol
