    interior conversion advice

i am gonna be changing the whole interior of my car, so it looks right once i get the paint job.

i want all the blue (seats, carpets, dash, etc) to be turned into black, and all the places that are highlighted in black now, to be silver (like the car)

on that note, would i be wise to go to a reupholstery shop, and have them install black carpets, or is it a task that could be handled on my own? i plan on painting all the plastic interior peices, but for the cloth/carpet/fabric stuff, i am just unsure...

i want to keep the cost down if possible, and i dont have a problem taking forever to do a good job myself, but i think it would be tough since the carpet is all contoured...

painting the dash, and the plastic parts are easy, you can do those yourself and save big bucks. if you can sew really well, then you should do it yourself... but for most of us who dont know how to sew, get it done professionally, like HostileJava said. happy hunting!

Laying carpet is incredibly easy, but time consuming I personally wouldnt listen to someone who hasnt done it before. I layed new carpet in my 3g and it took me around 3 hours. You can get the carpet from 1aauto.com and it runs for 150$ shipped to your door. It looks great. Once you have the old carpet ripped up you can line up the old with the new and judge where you need to cut the holes for the shifter, seats and ecu stuff. Just dont cut it to big, I would go with cutting the holes smaller, and then installing and then cutting them as you need them. Its better to cut it to small then to large. The carpet from them comes premolded to your floorpan so the hole cutting is all that is really needed. You will also need to trim around the edges of it since they sent it from the factory a little larger to allow for any custom installs.

Its very straight forward and didnt requre any glueing to the floor pan.....here are some pics..

Wow, that looks pretty good, but will the seats and doors be that easy to do?

I was talking strictly about the carpet since i have expereince with that. Seats cost anywhere from $150 a seat up to 350$ a seat depending on how you want them done, materials, etc.. Door panels will be less. A full seat interior is usually around 1000-1200$ dependig on materials..and can go over that. I got these prices from the local upholstery shop.

It ALL depends on the complication of the design and the material. When you get your seats done, your paying for labor, fabric isnt THAT expensive.
