    clutch problem

Hi, I can't shift when my car is started but I can shift it while it is turned off. Clutch peddle does nothing and will not let me shift . tried tightening the clutch cable nut didnt help at all. Does this mean that the clutch is bad? Can someone please help me figure out this problem?

If it's adjusted to its maximum, it might be time to replace the cable.

Thanks for the response. The clutch cable is brand new, i had forgotten to mention this in my earlier post. Any other ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Then keep adjusting. It's not releasing.

You need some free play in the clutch arm for it to operate correctly.

Youll push up on the clutch arm to check the free play and then drive it some to get it set correctly.

    Re: clutch problem

just noticed this is a bit of a necro thread. lol my bad

on my honda the clutch pedal assembly broke, so it would not pull the cable at all. you might want to take a look under your dash while someone pushes the clutch pedal. just a guess. the whole assembly is made from pretty cheap stamped steel.
