they are really tough engines, and personally i think they are tougher than most newer hondas because the bottom ends are cast iron instead of aluminum. The only significant weak link in the engines are the cast pistons. The stock rods are plenty good, and the heads are pretty decent too. If you want the engine to be at its maximum potential just dont go too much into the redline say 6500 rpm max (that can hurt these engines) make sure youre valve lash is adjusted correctly, if its much too loose you lose power and it makes the valvtrain wear out earlier, but too tight and you can burn up valves. Also do regular oil changes and maintenance. Ive heard with any car its also wise to wait until the engine is fully warmed up until you rev it over like 4-5k pms, it avoids premature wear and breaking stuff. If you take care of these engines with regular maintenance and oil changes, ive seen these engines last well over 300k miles. The cars usually rust out unitl they are undrivable but the engines last.

also- if you race at all- be very carefull- second gear is what I believe to be the strongest fastest gear but watch the high revs- I killed to motors by maxing that gear out - don't be like me and learn the hard way

The A20 engines were probably some of the best engines Honda has ever made to date (IMO). Not for speed or power, but for reliability, durability, and the overall 'holy-shit-I-just-can't-kill-this-thing!' factor, lol. They can pretty much take anything you can dish out, beg for more, and keep running like brand new (unless of course you overheat it or over-rev it, which will kill any engine). With proper maintenance, 3rd gen Accords easily see 300-400k, even 500k miles and more without even batting an eye. There's really nothing you need to do to make it stronger unless you plan on going turbo or something like that, because the nice people at Honda already took care of that for us. Just follow the service schedule and don't abuse it too much, and you won't have any problems.

310k miles here and runs like brand freakin new
