mine does it when its freezing out side, i just dont drive it when its freezing, or else i crank it and let it warm up for a few minutes. till its good and warm then it shifts
Have you checked the oil?
RU sure it's not stuck in 2nd gear? Some trannys resort to full time 2nd if there is a shifting failure... as a limp-home mode.

yeah my 87 did that one day, i tryed everything ,changed fluid and the internal filter , adjusted all the cables still no go ,,once n a while itd shift at like 9 grand in first then to second and if i was luky it woul go 2 3rd ,,:smokin: so i just blazed up and tooker home on its last leg and called the auto wreckers and they towed er away , i guess the real prob was it blew some valve inside and spun a bearing ,, meh , my 89 5speed is sooo much better ,,switch to a 5 speed youll be much more happier with it:pimp:
TommyJ...9 grand in ur 87 accord?..lol...the tach only goes to 8 grand
yeah that 9 grands a estimate all iknow is the lil needle was burried and the engine was screamin for quite some time b4 it fially shifted![]()
Your tranny needs rebuilt. Usually this is caused by not fully stopping before changing gears. This causes grinding down of the gears. Remember Hondas automatic transmissions are the most fragile thing. The same thing happened to me about 2 years ago. Especially when my car got warmer. So i pitty you. If you have it rebuilt by a pro. it will be $2,000. If you want, do it yourself. I would say about $200 and a lot of time. You can buy tranny kits on the net. I've seen them before. All I can say is take off a week of work and go for shit! Good Luck!
