    I hear a loud squeel.

ok, when I start my car, this very loud high piched squeel is heard. I tryed to hear where it was comming from, and it comes from something near the belts. The mechanic I took the car to said nothing is wrong with mt belts. Could it be the water pump? since that is near the belts. The squeeling seems to lower the warmer the car gets, so it still happens when I accelelerate. my car is a f/i bwt.

I'ts a belt... The reason it goes away when the car is warm is cause the belt has more grip when hot... just like tires.

Check all the belts for proper tension and look at the inner grooves for cracks

If the water pump seized then you would also get the squeal, but then you'd be overheating as well.

Here is a pic of damaged belts

allright, I'll see what I can do, then take it to another mechanic. also, my car doesn't overheat, but the radiator fans are always on, it's not the fuse, so I dunno what it is.

My alternator belt squeals if it's cold out and I have the lights and rear defrost on. It goes away by a couple blocks.

All you need to do is tighten the tensioner that is right on top of the alternator.

if ur belts squeek, they do for two reasons. improper tension or like mike said, bad belts. You better change it pretty soon or adjust the tension cause you dont wanna be stranded with your car over heating cause the belt does go thru your water pump and your altenator.
