    Yet....Another Code 12 Thread

    '86 Accord LX-i

Thus far I have done the following in my quest to make the light go off:

Swapped EGR valve with a known good one. (holds vacuum, sensor goes from ~1.2VDC to ~4.3VDC when vacuum is applied)
Cleaned tube running from exhaust manifold to intake manifold
Checked the 3 port dealy in the black box

What's next? I'm about to douse with gasoline and light it up.

Have you proceeded through the troubleshooting flowchart starting on p. 12-79 of the 89 USDM manual?

No. Every link I found for that manual is dead. I'd love to have a copy of it.

X2. I'd love to have that manual for my '89 LX. I bought a chilton manual and don't like it.

Sorry for bringing this old thread back from the dead, but i would like to point out a few things
Things other than the EGR valve may go wrong (although in my case a non-working EGR valve was the problem -electrical problem)

The car WILL NOT POST A CODE if the pipe carrying the exhaust gas to the EGR valve is blocked.
There is no sensor there to gauge exhaust gas temperature or flow.
Everything will work, but there will be NO EXHAUST gas SO THE CAR WILL FAIL EMISSIONS with an otherwise working EGR system.

If the EGR valve WORKS but there is still code in the ECU, it may be due to some of the following:
Defective EGR solenoid (or defective wiring)
Defective vacuum porting device (the green-white disk inside the black box)
Lack of engine vacuum reaching the black box
Some issue with the vacuum hoses
If it ain't broke... I fix it!

Glad you brought it back from the dead, because my search brought me here, and this answered my question.

The EGR pipe was seized into the exhaust manifold, so I had to cut it off. I was wondering if I just blocked off the port on the intake manifold, and left the EGR valve in place, if it would throw a code.

Looks like the answer is no. That's perfect. No EGR tube for me!

PS. It's 2018, and emojis are still lame compared to forum smileys.
