    88 Honda accord LXI smoke from the steering column

    I just bought this 88 accord LXI and I was driving it and smoke started coming out of the steering column I shut the car off to check it out and it wouldn't start back up now it picks and chooses when it wants to start anyone got any advice

    Probably got a short on the ignition wires going to the ignition key solenoid. Get a flashlight and inspect that area for burnt wires, those wires will be thicker than all the other ones.

    Sounds like something on one of the two "on" circuits is shorted which cooked your ignition switch. Under the steering column there should be a connector (6 pin if I remember correctly) with heavy gauge wiring. Do any of the pins show signs of overheating? If so, which color?
