Re: 86 Honda Accord turbo build

I called the local Smog Referee about doing a RSX swap into the Accord. He's THE GUY who will be crawling all over the finished product, supposedly checking all the part numbers, deciding whether I get to keep it on the road when it's done.

One, he didn't seem to know very much about cars, or engine swaps, or smog requirements. On that point alone it was a very disappointing call. But two, he actually tried to talk me out of doing a swap to OBD 2. He said that it would be too hard to get passed and a lot of people really struggle with it, so just stick with OBD 1. (Truth be known, HE'S probably the one who struggles with figuring it out).

I was shocked. These CARB bureaucrats hold themselves out as being the people who are cleaning up our air, but here I am wanting to clean up the air, and they're talking me out of it!! They actually WANT me to drive around in an old worn-out car, dirtying the air. The smog regs are so onerous now that it's easier to drive around in a car leaking oil and coolant, with worn out smog controls, than to upgrade it and make it better. When I asked the referee if there was any realization among regulators that their overweening smog regs are actually counterproductive, the question went right over his head.

    What a joke.

Oh yeah she's topped off with antifreeze ready for the cold. I did put the new transmission on unfortunately I didn't put something together right in the shifter area. So unfortunately I had to pull that transmission back out.

All right the hybrid transmission has been taken apart and I found out that the shift change holder mechanism is bent the reason why I wasn't able to go inn first and second only 3rd 4th 5th and reverse.

And come to find out from looking up the number the transmission bell housing is a second gen Accord a18 bellhousing. So two areas have to be grinded down to clear the larger pressure plate for the A20.

But other than that the main shafts both shaft just slide into place Integra gears 1 through 4 and A18 5th gear and bellhousing. Waiting on a throwout bearing from spec clutch before I swap it out. As far as the car running it runs pretty good I got some tapping coming from the valve cover area I may have a bent valve it's also time to adjust valve lash so that's it for now.

It's making a chirping squealing noise when I first take off and I noticed the throwout bearing is wore out

I gave up on searching for the rear tokicos everyone is discontinued. So I went with these eBay special KYB shocks for the rear. To go with my H&R Springs and Cheddars Auto rear top hats.

    Cool man.

The stock shocks valving was always terrible and the cheap aftermarket replacements are usually worse.
