Hello. It's been a while since last time I checked in here. Around 7 years i think. Looking at the posting dates of the forums the board looks to be at a rather low activity level compared to back then. Maybe people are dormant like I've beenOr these cars are now more or less gone and forgotten about.
There are probably not too many around here anymore who will remember me but I used to spend a lot of time on 3g stuff. A lot of things have taken place in my life in the mean time. 8 years ago I had just completed my education/training as a car mechanic but I had never been happy about the work and the environment I was in. What I valued spending time and money on had started to change and I wanted to put some things behind me. I moved to Copenhagen and started studying mechanical engineering finishing that 4 years ago. Since then I've worked full time for the oil and gas industry as an R&D engineer and got to travel around the world a bit. I ended up getting consumed by work more than I was happy with and 1 year ago I went back to studying again, this time a M.Sc. in applied mechanics which I should finish a year from now.
I kept my silver B20 accord but I barely drove it as I didn't need it for school/work and I was starting to just get increasingly more uninterested in it but still could not bring myself to sell it even though my love for it had pretty much disappeared. Then 1½ year ago someone rear-ended me and I took the insurance's offer to total it as it was the easier way for me rather than having it fixed and then wanting to get rid of it again. So I'm sorry to say that that car is dead. 9 years ago I had started a huge turbo build for it and wasted a lot of money buying engine parts and a custom manifold that was never finished. I've forgotten about most of it now though but I have various parts sitting somewhere.
Some years ago I picked up kite-surfing which I enjoy a lot. But not having had my own car for the past 1½ year has put it's limitations on my ability to utilize all opportunities to go surfing and I started thinking about getting another car. But since car taxes here are ridiculously high I mostly thought about a getting a tiny vw diesel or equivalent. Those cars are utterly boring though and the trunk space is always small. So I've been playing around with the idea about rebooting my Aerodeck restoration project. It's a funny looking (and now extremely rare) car that can provide lots of easily accessed trunk space and I've always had this nagging feeling about never finishing it. I left the project at its peak 7 years ago and have not touched it since then. Back then I had pretty high ambitions for the level of detail and quality of the work. The kind of time required to finish it with the same level of detail is something that I just cannot devote myself to any longer and it's not possible either as the car is 350km from where I live. So if I should get back into this project then I would have to forget about things like custom polished brake lines, relocated power steering, galvanizing all suspension parts and all sorts of other ideas that now seem stupid to me as the custom stuff you do to a car eventually ends up only being a hassle if you want to drive the car frequently.
Here's how i left the car 7 years ago:
I think I'm getting back on here to try to motivate myself into finishing the project. I would then take some time out this summer but obviously it needs a lot of work. All the body parts are painted but stripped of all trim, clips, wires etc. My decisions to change the wiring harness, the radiator, the front cross member and the engine bay now means that I cannot just swap parts in from my donor Aerodeck. From which the parts may be deteriorated by now anyway from sitting for so long. I also see that spare parts are now virtually non existent, meaning that buying suspension parts, exhaust and so on will involve ordering from either germany, uk or the us. I wonder how to keep a car like this alive going forward.
That's some of my story. I hope I will bring the Aerodeck project to a finish. But I might need a little help from fellow 3g drivers to get there. Let me know if anyone knows how to get a set of SEi wheels or what aftermarket wheels have that factory look.
