Well, I think the subject sums up my question.

the only problem i can think of is that its easy to steal, some people say it causes air leaks but thats far fetched, i believe
Its not that far fetched, youre putting a hole in the box, itll leak a, wether itll make a difference or not its up to you, but unless you have a bulletproof box the amp is gonna be exposed to some vibration which isnt the greatest thing for an amp to be exposed to, so i would advise against it.

If you mount it on the back of the box it can prevent the heat from the amp to dissipate, and some say prolonged mounting on the box can hurt the amp in the long run from all the vibration... but who knows![]()

The major reason it is not too smart to mount your amp to the box, is theft. The amp will go wherever the box goes.
lol tell that to my friend in south buffalo, he had a pair of tens in a sealed with a 50 watt amp powering them, and when he went out in the morning his trunk was open and his box was gone, but these guys actually unscrewed the amp from the box and left the amp, and made off with his 10s... Go figure...

it is not bad to mount your amp on the subwoofer box, it is where to mount it.
here is the link that may help you to understand it http://www.eatel.net/~amptech/elecdisc/amplfier.htm
Alex.
that link is helpfull but if your box is flexing enough to cause physical damage to your amp, you need to get a new box.

if you can feel the box walls moving when the system is at full vol, your box sucks anyways...

That is why I always build my sub enclosures with 2 layers of 3/4 in. material..Originally posted by 88 Accord DX

Then once you have a good solid enclosure, there should be no reason why you couldn't mount your amp to the box, other then what has already been mentioned about ease of theft.
peace out

yeah i agree, my box weighs 120lbs with subs and even at full vol at 33hz with about 1250 watts going to them the box doesnt viberate at all, you can put your hand on the top and feel 0 movement. I did cross brace the thing with like 2x4s and monster screws tho, as well as corner braces and stuff with 3/4 all around and in some places doubled. Heavy but it works.

Depending on how much space you have between the enclosure and the trunk top, it might not be enough room to keep the amp itself cool and that could cause it to overheat.
LoL for an old thread.. But yea, if they want to steal it, than they will steal it anyway,.
The best place to mount Amp I think is under back seat, there is room for it. or in the spear tire compartment..
