    I dunno... well see if I ever get around to doing it... I'll probably add in a custom aluminum flush mount spoiler to the rear as well.

    Alright Mantis you are removing all of this stuff and you still haven't gotten a WEBER!!!! What's wrong with you. You could have kept everything you had and still would have had more power than you do now. I know I will probably remove most of that stuff too but wouldn't you rather enjoy the car a little longer than driving in a gutted car with a stock carb. GET A WEBER!!!

    Don't dis the stock carb... you just have to be willing to take it to the next level is all. Have you checked out the sticky I made in carb tech? STOCK CARB MODS

    Anyways... the thread is about weight reduction not carbs.

    damnit I forgot what I was about to say... I'll edit it in later.

    Well I just figured I would help him get his 3G going faster b/c that's ultimately what he wants. I mean to go through all that weight reduction and you have the stock carb holding you back. Throw on some 40's and then that 3G will cook it's opponents. I would do it that way at least before I gut the car. But that's just how I would do it. I would gut the car as a last resort to gain the extra edge on the competition. But hey I guess free mods easier to get than $300 mod.

    hell yeah, im trying to get as much power as i can with stock carb and manifold right now, my next plans are to port the intake manifold a bit if its possible,

    ohh and has anyone see at Autozone in the carb section they got these adaptors to adapt a 4 barrel carb to any 2 barrel manifold.

    I thought I saw something like that but I just figured it wouldn't work for my car. I plan to make a custom manifold and attempt to port and polish it. Don't know how well it will go though. Dremel and a grinding bit set is what I got for the job. No I just need the intake manifold.

    Ok you guys I just shelled my front bumper...

    I used 2 custom "L-Brackets" made out of 12'ish guage steel and a 1/4" diameter steel rod.

    I drilled 1 hole in each bracket to be mounted where the lower bolt for the headlight assembly goes. (The bolt between the radiator and the headlight)

    then a ran the 1/4" diameter rod between the two brackets...
    the rod was long enough to extend past the brackets 6" on each side.

    Zipties secure the bumper in place... I originally planned to use the 1/4" rod to hold the zip ties but decided to secure it to the upper radiator support.

    just to let you know the orientaion of the pic is:
    Left = rear of car
    Right = front of car

    well looks like Mikey went to work again... HA - HA

    I completed shelling front and rear bumpers... wee!

    ok in the pic below, the triangle piece is cut from the rear metal bumper... when you go to reinstall it you need to line up the last hole on the triangle with the first hole on the car frame... that way it sticks out far enough so you can weld on the flat bars for the new bumper support.

    the lengths are shown on each piece in the pic. and the assembly and welding is pretty straight forward.

    I didn't use the round 1/4" rod this time... the bumper was so dam snug when i stuck it on that all i did was screw in the screw on the fender well edge.

    just to let you know the orientaion of the pic is:
    Left = front of car
    Right = rear of car

    Well I'm kinda confused about what your doing. Are you getting rid of your renforcement bar? And yes I'm at work again but I'm stressed out from trying to get my car ready for the Ontario meet. I hate asking people for money but I might just have to. Ok would you expect your g/f to help buy the parts you need to replace in order to go to her families place in NY? I honestly thought she could chip in a little bit b/c I wouldn't buy the stuff if I wasn't going there. Sorry for getting of topic but I'm really freaking out. I just hope my car will be ok.

    You are stressed out. NO I'm stessed out. My fuel pump is taking a shit on me again, eventhough it is brand new and was put in about 5 months ago. I'm pissed.

    It's just the plastic bumper shell held on with the custom mounts I made... The big bulky metal bumper is removed.

    here is a pic that shows which bolt I used... it's the passenger side of the car.

    The headlight assembly stays in it's place... you only remove the bolt and add in the L bracket, then bolt everything back down.

    Man that sucks, but I meeting her family for the first time in NY, and I need to fix rotors, calipers, pads, drums, shoes, CV shaft, CV joints, and CV boots. I'm pretty stressed out b/c I gotta magically come up with this money for all this and still be able to have enough money to go to NY and Ontario and get back here. My g/f said she'd loan me some money. My mouth dropped, I was thinking she could help out a little bit b/c I just replaced her $300 amythist ring she LOST!!! :angry: And to top it off I think I'm getting sick too.

    Oh I understand now Mike. Thanks for clarifying that. I'm glad you got something there to protect the 3G at least. I was hoping you just didn't take the bars out.

    ? the bars are out? what bars do you mean? there is nothing protecting the car except for the skinny plastic floating on my custom mounts.

    Well when I got rear ended awhile back this shop said my re enforcement bar was no good (rusted and it was hit so it was shattered) And I needed a new one. I don't know if there is one in the front but I'd assume there is one for safety reasons.

    stock the car has both front and rear metal bumpers... the plastic is just a fancy cover (sometimes called a bumper cover), which hides the nasty shapen metal behind it...

    inbetween the metal bumper and the bumper cover there is bumper foam.

    anyways safety is not my concern... I'll protect myself by other means, like not doing risky things when I drive.
    Defensive driving is an art...

    how about removing some of the extra wiring leftover from the all the crap that is gone like the ac. And what about that damn dome light too. Dont forget to take off the inner door handles that has to be like 15 lbs for all 4. And the door open switches have to be made of iron. The headliner, door lights, glove box, and ac switch are all superfluous right? How about a race car style sheetmetal dash with lightweight gauges.

    I'm making a fiberglass dash, you can see what it will look like if you visit my cardomain site... plus I already have 2 pro comp autometer guages.

    I was going to rewire the whole car but the stupid combination switches along the steering collum makes it a hastle since I don't want to lose those.

    is this going to be street legal? if not, why not take out the tail lights and cover them with aluim.? or cut the middle section out of your back bumper for less drag. i heard that helps a lot.
