Muffler shot..no new to be found..

My muffler is shot and nowhere to be found new....
Can anybody tell me if the muffler of a 3 gen. Prelude (1988-1991) will fit my 2 gen. Prelude (1984-1987) ? It is also a dual tip muffler. Have searched all over the world and had some orders refunded already.
If you know a place where i can still get them please let me know.Need a fix for mot-check.

You can't have a local muffler shop weld a universal job in there?

Well,i guess everything is makeable, but I prefer original above anything. I might have no other option though, except maybe an all handmade stainless steel exhaust copied of the original. But that would cost me about half of what I paid for the car a year ago. Collecting some info right now.

Honda will probably not carry mufflers anymore.

However, you can maybe get a BOSAL muffler. Bosal is a supplier of replacement exhaust parts for manufacturers around the world.

The one you need is the 278-163. This happens to be the same muffler for the 2G Accord hatchback.

There is currently one on Ebay

    Carotman,

The one you pointed out is already sold out also.. besides,it is a single tip at the back,i have original a dualtip muffler. But thanks for thinking along.
I now ordered a 3 gen. Prelude muffler and hope to make it fit somehow..

So, did it fit? I recently bought an 89 Prelude and have been trying to find an A pipe.

I ran into a similar issue with my 3g hatchback. Availability was slim to none around my area in addition to the part cost. It forced me to build my own and im glad, i upgraded the whole exhaust to a 2.25" mandrel bent tubing, also had a new Catalytic converter, resonator, and muffler. Ended up being cheaper than the actual replacement, may want to consider just having it fixed at a muffler shop unless you have access to a welder.

Just an update, my entire BOSAL exhaust purchased from Rock Auto fit like a charm, so the stock exhaust including 90s downpipe, mid pipe & muffler all were a straight bolt on.
