    1986 Honda Prelude Si

This is my build thread I copied over from another forum. Gonna post updates here as well.

Just picked up my 1986 Prelude 2.0 Si 5spd yesterday (March 10, 2017) for 400 dollars. It has 170k on the odometer. It runs but not great. May need yalls help diagnosing the problem, but I'll get to that later in the post.

My name is John, I live in southeast Texas. I've been working on cars as long as I can remember. This Prelude makes the 4th vehicle that I currently own, but it's my first Honda. Always wanted one, just never imagined my first would be a 2g prelude.

It's in decent shape considering the age and the money I paid for it. It needs carpet, the previous owner ripped it out for some unknown reason. Seats have seen better days. No rust besides a little surface rust on the trunk lid. She's running rough right now and unsure of why.

She's getting way too much gas for one and it's finding its way into the oil. It runs super rich and blows little bits of oil out of the exhaust. It's got brand new plugs in it, but they keep getting fouled out by all of the unburnt gas. It's also got an oil leak from somewhere on the bottom end of the motor. I didn't get a chance to look into that yesterday before I had to leave for work.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Enough with the talk here's some pictures.

Excuse the tall grass around the car. It's been sitting for a couple months while I've been busy with other projects.

A few months ago, I bought a 97 civic with a d16y5 that I was gonna swap into the car, but later decided to not do it. The car did have the nice factory Enkei wheels on it so I swapped those on it. Looks so much better already.

Hope to get back on this thing soon. Will try to keep yall updated a little better from now on. May make a walk around video later this week.

Welcome.Car with potential,i likeŽm all though...Rims look really good on it. I would first try to sort out the engine, pistonrings sound suspect to me. Hope youŽll get it sorted out, could be a nice ride once done.

    Auke.

    Auke.
It is the rings. The first post was written about a week after I bought the car and hadn't done much looking into it. Rings came unseated allowing massive amounts of blowby and allowed gas to pour into the oil pan.

Not much but got bored and was cleaning up around the shop, so I bolted the hood back down and put the grille back in. Really can't wait to start working on this thing again.

Well nothing has changed with the car since last post. Will be completing some work on my house soon, so I will hopefully be back working on this thing again soon.

Recently a close friend of mine and I were joking about a trade which now is no longer a joke. Once the car is running and back on the road, it will be getting a new owner. I sold my only running truck a few weeks ago so I've been looking for another with better fuel mileage. My buddy has a 1998 Frontier 4x4 5 speed that I will be getting in trade for the Prelude. Luckily I will still see it fairly often as he is also one of my roommates. He will be having me do the work on it even once the trade is done, so I will still be able to post updates here.

Sorry you have to get rid of it, but glad you got something that works better for you.
