    Tube Gash

Looking at my engine today, there's a rubber tube leading from the exaust pipes into the air intake (I have a carb). The tube has a huge gash in it, although I havent noticed anything wrong, Is it something i have to fix immediately?

Thats the preheater hose... it's connected to the heat sheild right?

It's function is to suck up hot air from around the exhaust manifold when the intake temp sensor nottices the air is cold.
I'm not sure if it's a constant function or just durring warm up,
but when they call it a pre-heater hose it makes it sound like it only operates durring warm up.

Anyways you can repair it with duct tape as long as the area torn is not too close to the exhaust end, but I doubt having a hole in the hose is going to make much of a difference unless you live in really cold climates.

Yeah the gash is right next to the heat shield. it looks like it was repaired before and was degrading again. I dont live in such a cold climate (Southern California), So I guess i shoudnt worry too much about it for now. Thanks for the info.
