serious coolant leak. what coulld it be?

my 88 accord lx sedan with 5 speed. it leaks all of its coolant out within a few minutes of warming up. i just replaced one hose and all the other ones look fine. it seems to be coming out from around the intake manifold or something. it poors out from around the oil pan. i hit a snow bank going maybe 15mph or so. my bumper fell of but thats it. im not sure if i could have knocked something loose

Are you sure the radiator isn't cracked?

If you think its from the intake manifold... then there are 3 coolant lines connected to it.
one is under the intake manifold and very small the other 2 are on opposite sides of the manifold and are like 5/8" I think.

i replaced one of the 5/8" ones. i got a half inch hose and made it fit for temperary use. and its not coming from my radiator at all.
one of my 88 lx's is up for parts. good engine and transmission. pretty much everything is there. the fenders and hood are bad but other than that it's pretty good.

Did you check your water pump? The seal might be going causing the coolant to leak out the relief hole.

the water pump was replaced like 10000 miles ago. i'd like to think the seal wouldn't go that quickly

Well just run your hand over every hose join... you'll find it eventually... also did you bleed the coolant lines? you radiator can fill up but you still need to fill the block and water pipe and the intake manifold after you fixed a leaky hose...

I wouldn't reuse the old clamps.. the ones that came with the car will weaken after you remove them once... and you need a special tool to tighten it again.... buy the clamps that you screw to tighten.

could be the pipe that runs underneath the intake from the pump to the hose, sometimes these pipes rust through at the joint between the pipe and the small tubes that feed the hoses that connect to the pipe

u can always fix things with duct-tape. run ur car when ur looking for coolent leaks. its probably one of the small hose that broke off. also, check near your thermostat assembly and see if its leaking from there. IF it is, then u need a new thermostat gasket.

I've seen coolant leaks from the plugs put in the block after casting (3 on the from and 3 on the back of our engines). That's probably worth a look. I think that they're not too expensive to fix if it is the problem.

i have no idea what the thing is. i can barely see it. its the matal pipe thing that runs under the intake manifold. i forget where the other end goes. but if i ever decide to wake up and go out side today ill go look.

oooooooh. The one end near the crank, goes to your Water pump and the other end goes to the bottom of the radiator and right before that it splits to the heater core and the 'T' splitter. if its leakin from your water pump side, its probably the seal like u mentioned.

I think i did not guess the right thing again

Man it has to be your water pump because i had this problem also after the car warms up water just starts to pour out of the water pump right onto the exhaust. check from underneath the car. its just a guess.
If it is broken then fix it. IF NOT LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE

I had two mysterious coolant leaks on my LX...

I put a new radiator cap on and "presto" everything was fixed.

I tried pulling mine out once and it wouldn't budge... I'm not sure how the pipe is held in other then a bolt under the intake manifold... I know the part its stuck on is apart of the block casting.
