    Talking new interior

I finally got my upholstery kit in, i wa the one who won the auction on e bay, 70 bucks for a leather interior. holy sh... kit is top quality no cheap stuff. i would have paid 700 for this. no kidding. anyway here is a picture of what i'vew got done so far. will keep updating. it came with a suprise, door panels. not mentioned on ebay. they turned out to be for an lxi so i worked with them. you can't see it in the pictures but they are sewn. very nice. the cloth part i made is a match for the headliner. and the blue is from the last time i did the interior.

I know i got it from ebay someone on line had posted a thread about it. i'm really suprised that we didn't have a bidding war going on with site members. the starting bid was seventy bucks and i had posted a maxium bid of 400$ would have gone higher. but it stayed at seventy. figured a lot of guys would have bid from here. i will try to contact seller i think he sells a lot of upolstery kits on ebay. at the same time he had a red cloth kit for an 89 prelude on here same price. will let you know.

it's made to fit an 87 accord lxi hatch, he just has different kits for different cars not all hondas. he wasn't sure what kind of 87 accord it was for, but i could tell from looking at the pictures it was for a hatch. it was for an lxi because the door panel pieces i have fit on the lxi door panels i had in my parts. i had to do some fabrication to make it fit my dx doors. thats what the cloth parts are for. all he knows about the kit was that it had the seat upholstery for all three seats. he didn't mention anything about the door parts they were just in there. there are also some odd ball parts of leather i didn't recognize. he also said it had been in dry storage for ten years.

ok the back seats are done here are some pictures sorrry about the picture quality camera is acting up this is the seat after the original material is removed, the seat foam is excellent after sixteen years. all i had to do to remove the material was cut all the hog rings, remove the cover over the latch mech, remove the release button and trim and remove the seat pin bushing. this is the first step after streching the material over the foam, and the word here is strech. this is a very tight fit. i used aircraft quality tie wraps to secure the material because i couldn't get enough tension with the hog rings. after that you have to install the trim for the release button, there is an inner part to this trim that has to be snapped in before the material is streched. then you line up the pin by pushing it all the way up with the latch mechanism, slide the outer trim over the inner trim, and snap together. as shown in this picture now screw the release pin all the way down, if it won't go the two halves of the trim are not aligned properly and you have to start over on that step. now you drive in the bushing for the seat pin, the holes did not align properly so i had to cut out the hole for the bushing. this pin had to be driven out from the inside of the seat frame because prying will break it. here is the latch mech, i had to trim out the leather around this so it would work right, and then the plastic cover goes over this and secures with one screw. here is a better picture of the seat bushing after installation here is the seat when almost done needs to be streched more and here is the installed rear seat backs i've done the lower seat but it's too dark to take pictures now. i'm having a lot of problems with the fit of the lower seat cushion and the material will work on it later. YEA YEA THATS COOL I AM THE GREAT CORNHOLIO

damn Tim, that looks amazing. Did that guy ever get back to you and let you know if he's got anymore leather kits for the hb's? I'm very interested in a grey leather kit if he's got it. Or even if he's got the pattern that he'll sell me, I'll stitch it all together and take care of that part.

i think he just buys the kits and resells them he wasn't even sure what kind of accord it was for. he had different kits for different cars on ebay, i sent him an email but no reply i had problems getting the seat upholstery to fit on the seat backs and the seat cushions. still working on the lower cushions. will keep updating as this project progresses. and if i hear anything from him

will have more pictures as soon as i get more camera batteries. i found out that the %^&*( quarter panels off an 89 lxi hatch don't fit in an 86 dx hatch, the bottom part fits but the top doesn't. i went through a lot of work to paint the lower half of the panels. and prep them. even installed custom lights all for nothing. the bottom half fit so i had transferred the top part of the quarters to it since it was already upholstered. everything lined up then the end near the door was 1/4 inch too short. never fails. so i went through all of the trouble to cover the original top half of the 89 quarter and install it, they are very difficult to upholster because of the compound curves in them used some of my limited amount of discontinued blue velour. put it all back together and then the top of the quarter was too long and interfered with the door. all that for nothing so back to square one had to paint the original panels and reinstall them. finally done will post pics soon i hope.

    more progress

ok here are some more pictures of what the interior is so far, i've done the passenger side door panel, the quarter panel on that side, all of the back seats, and working on the rear deck. haven't had time to start on the front seats yet. i am going to the do the drivers side rear quarter next. here is the speaker part near the read deck, there are purple lights under that smoked plexi speaker grill is being worked on now here are some pictures of the carpet that covers the back of the rear seats. I have a carpeted wood panel that covers the hatch floor and flips up at one end for access to the fuel pumps. the carpet on the back of the seatsfits under that flap and when the flap is closed it covers the gap between the seats and hatch.

thank you, i had to raise the rear seat cushion to make it line up, but it worked. need to make a spacer for the middle bolt, it causes the seat to be pulled down in the middle. shouldn't be too difficult to do, i'll be glad to get the front seats done, then i'm taking a road trip to somewhere, don't know where yet i'll be glad to get my sei center console. next month is the carpet. this is my third interior on this car. the second was out of desperation, i had worn out the original one.

i don't think that kit is for an lx-i hatch. i know mine has power windows and that one does not... don't know though.. i might be retarded.
