It's not just here, every avocation I'm familiar with has gone dark. General Ripper may have been right about fluoridated water.

Re: So is just no one doing these cars anymore?

The Fast & Furious days have passed. All the kids have moved on to phones.

Back in the late 90s I was huge into the A1 VW series. I had a Rabbit GTI, Cabriolet, Jettas etc. & they were all over the pick n pull lots. Every performance part I found I bought used. Once the supply ran out and they became scarce at pick n pull I kind of moved on. Half the fun for me was the hunt for a bargain.

The same thing happened once I moved on to vintage Volvos. Parts were everywhere, but over the last 4 years the supply is dwindling.

The up and coming Radwood meets I've been reading about on Jalopnik sparked my interest in 80s Hondas. Hopefully the trend will continue and more people will begin to turn towards the 80s cars as these meets begin to grow.

    https://www.radwood.co/

Also see The Old School Reunion meets. I'm heading to the Houston meet in November.

Re: So is just no one doing these cars anymore?

I've always been into old Hondas. My first car was an 86 CRX HF. Drove that thing to death.. Texas a few times, New Jersey, you name it. Only reason I had to get rid of it was because I had a few cops in the town I lived in fucking with me and they knew my car. Since then I've had 3 1st gen CRXs, 1 2g Prelude, 2 3g Accords, 87 300zx, 85 LTD
I've literally only had one car that was newer than 1989 and that was a 2013 Focus which I grew to hate. I'm not sad it's gone. (the 2000 Accord was in the wifes name so that doesn't count =P ) Went right back to old Hondas again and picked up the current 89 Accord I have now. Cost me 400$ but I'm sure I'm well over 3 or 4k in at this point. May seem like a lot of money to dump on an old car and it probably is, but I'm doing things I've always wanted to do and learning a ton in the process.
There's still some things going on.. I recently did DCOEs and got the community a line on a DCOE intake if they want one. The guy who made mine can make more and his price is killer.
Working on a 5 speed swap atm. Should be back up and running within 2 weeks. Hopefully...
Schaff is right though, the F&F days are definitely gone. Younger folks just arent interested in building a car, putting time and sweat into one to make it truly your own. They'd rather go buy the latest STI and act like hot shit.
Not all of them are like that but the majority is.

I'm still floating about. Just waiting on the garage doing my swap to get their act together. Got the beast fired up for the first time yesterday, so just waiting on paint and a test drive/tune and then I'll be a lot more active. Only so much to update when nothing gets done :P

We're living our dreams with these cars. I'm with you. Working on these old cars we learn by trial and error, our minds actually think and we have fun. Those that drive newer cars will never understand our fun world. Our old cars are unique. Some of us like to keep them stock while others like to build their own custom car. And either way you decide, you really can't go wrong. Who cares what these people think. Some throw thousands into a bigscreen TV . I'd rather throw that money at my car, restoring it, whatever it needs.

Re: So is just no one doing these cars anymore?

I rarely lurk much anymore here, for awhile seemed everytime I tried to get to the site it was down nonstop so I quit trying for awhile. The facebook group is awesome to an extent, but I prefer here on the forum more. I bought mine for $400 on my 16th birthday October 9th 2005 and was Emancipated(Legally declared an adult before age 19 in AL by a judge) same day afterwards. Drove it to my friends house first thing and the Ignitor on the dizzy went out less than 20 miles into my journey. After that roadside repair thanks to my dad, I never had an issue out of it for several years. It's been an amazing car the entire time I've had it, has been my reliable daily since age 16.

1 clutch replacement, 1 newer prelude tranmission, several coils, caps and rotors, 1 cam seal, 3 blown head gasket replacements, 2 full rebuilds top to bottom(2nd time is a long story) and a shitload of plugs and plug wires along with several other things later and this thing still zings about all day, everyday as my daily driver. Even my 2yo daughter and 4yo son prefer riding in it over my wifes 2015 Nissan Altima and 1998 Nissan Maxima. lol. They call it daddys racecar. <3

I've done a good bit of aftermarket replacements and have everything boxed in my closet but a chipped OBD1 ecu to swap to OBD1. After getting most of the parts, had another kiddo(If you think these cars are expensive buying parts for, have a kid) and lost most of my freetime to do anything working 12hr nightshifts @911, let alone finding the time to run with my Fire Department(was Chief 2 years up until last month). Hopefully I'll get back at it like I used to though, and very soon. Last thing I did was a fresh rebuild last month. Got shit gas from BFE gas station, noticed pinging right as spark plug tip broke off and scored Cyl 1s walls, losing a bit of compression. Within a week before i could afford to tear it apart and buy all the new bearings, rings, HG and seals/gaskets etc my radiator started burping itself after driving in our mountains. Bubbling constantly while cranked. Cyl 3-4 were the source of the HG leak after looking at it. Cylinders honed, CYL1 repaired, slung back together with no extra parts(I feel i did something wrong without the extra bolts or nuts left lol). Runs like a beast.

Noticed a couple of days ago after the car warms and maybe 15 mins of driving, my clutch won't fully disengage while running and is tough to get into first with the occasional gear grind. Shut it off, put it in first while its warmed up and crank it and its for sure a disengagement issue. Looks like I'll be doing an entire clutch kit replacement since any cable adjustment had no change with the issue. Kinda looking forward to it though. We'll see. I posted pics of what all I did, with the CYL1 damage on the FB group last month or so. Pretty sure my wife gets that I KNOW this car will never wake up one day and say it doesn't love me at this point.

I'm around but avg only once or twice a month nowadays here. I'm on FB alittle more often, like maybe 3-4 times a month. Love your car and it'll love you.

It's also the end of Fire prevention week, SO, go change all your smoke detector batteries especially if they are beeping every few mins. Every room in your house needs at least one detector in it. One day, it may save your life! Most FDs during this month offer free 9V batteries for them and some even offer some completely free detectors. Just ask your local department.

Amazing tale about the 3Gee journey I’ve had a few models and will continue to work on these beautiful creatures. I’m looking forward to finding a used louver - found one in the area but it got away.

been thinking the same thing, i honestly haven't seen another 3rd gen accord or lude around me in a few years. they are great cars, not the most modern looking but A LOT more character than the new stuff out there.

I grabbed a louver off a guy here a few years back for my sedan. Rare af part now and the one company who does still make it wants an arm and leg for it. Get comments on it all the time, most people haven't seen a sedan with one.

I've found several 3rd gens driving about lately, but they're stock AF, usually with retirees driving them. lol. Met a few when going places and told them of our site, and even wrote the site down on receipts hoping they'd join to no avail. I mean...free FSM downloads to fix issues cheaper than a shop would charge...how is that not enticing within itself? There's one I've tried tracking down but I'm always going opposite directions when i see it and can't turn around fast enough. It's beautifully white with a CF hood and nice gunmetal 6 or 7 spoke looking rims. Searched here for members close to me, none within a 2 hour drive so IDK. One day I'll catch that unicorn and may finally have a 3gee friend maybe. Never met a member before IRL. Closest member I know of is Ethan in nashvegas area 2+ hours away.

Haven't been able to work on my 3gs so I haven't been as active lately. Plan now is to move to a 2br apartment with a garage so I can work on them. Got a sedan that needs rear disc, b16 intake, delta 272 cam and odb1 conversion. Then a hatch that needs a header, weber 38/38 conversion, delta 272 cam and a new clutch. Once I have the space, I'll tackle those projects and hopefully document the progress here

We're still out here! The Facebook page is certainly more active than around here, but I think a lot more people see this place as a resource, and the page as the place to hang out. I would say we're in a lull, the Fast & Furious era for these cars has certianly passed, but I think the "Rad" era will give these cars the respect they deserve once again in the coming years.

That said! There's still traffic here! Seems like just a lot of people lurking! I for one just finished rebuilding the suspension, completing an engine swap, and re-painting my parts car, so don't even get me started on the actual project 3gee!
